The setting here was lovely. The staff were all lovely. It seemed to be mainly occupied by tourists. I can’t say either of us were that impressed with the food but it wasn’t bad. The bread was some of the nicest we have had.

Excellent from start to finish. Attentive service without being overbearing. Good wine recommendations. Fantastic food. Lovely setting outdoors. We actually visited because we thought the owners response to a bad review about ‘salted cod’ being ‘too salty’ was hilarious. Glad we followed our instinct!

We had an absolutely delightful lunch: great service, lovely food and tasty wines. “Tartare di Manzo” as a starter is a must... When you’re in Lucca, make sure you call at Cantine Bernardini.

We went here for dinner due to the very good reviews on TripAdvisor. We ordered ravioli as starter (was good) and Roastbeef with potato chips and Cod with fried vegetables as main dishes. The size of the main dishes were laughably small. Both portions had...the size of appetizers and there was way too much salt used with the fish (which was returned to the kitchen). The staff offered that they would prepare the fish again or that we could choose another main course from the menu but in the end we decided that it wasn’t worth the money and ate somewhere else. One star for the service, one star for the wine.More

Passed by coincidently and had a great lunch in the courtyard with gallery. Very quiet and professional service, great desserts, fresh made pastas, good wine selection,... Delicious! Good price for quality.

Constant companion and I visited Cantine Bernardini along with our culinary group. It is owned by three young men, one of whom, Francesco, was our host. We were seated in a most charming cave like setting, which was decorated with very colorful, stylized sketches of...Puccini's Operas, including Madama Butterfly, Tosca, and Turnadot etc. We began with what arguably was the best homemade wheat bread I have ever eaten. Francesco told us it was made with little salt from local grain and honey. It was allowed to rise overnight plus 3 hours the next day. This was a real hit with this home bread maker!! Next up were some fried meatballs coated in day old bread crumbs with rosemary and spices. Very tasty indeed! Lucca ravioli followed, made from a thicker dough than I am used to and filled with beef, pork, bread, cabbage and reggiano parmigiano. I felt that the thicker dough served with a very nice ragu actually created a most desired blend of flavors and texture. The most unusual entree was the Pigeon Risotto. A stock was made from the pigeon bones along with mire poix. The pigeon itself was poached and the rice was browned. Then everything was assembled in the pan with cognac and served. This dish was excellent and although I was trying to pace myself I found that I ate nearly all of it-it was that good! A pasta dish with pork ragu and a beautiful beef with potatoes and sage rounded out the next two servings. Finally, a raspberry gelato with Vin Santo served as the Dolce to this remarkable afternoon of dining. It should be noted that Francesco thoroughly explained each dish and its paired Tuscan wine. Informative and receptive to all our questions, he was personable and eager to please! Cantine Bernardini provided us with one of the finest meals during our two weeks eating through Tuscany!! Highly recommended!!More
