We have been pleasantly surprised by the variety of offerings on the menu. Our selection of stuffed rabbit roulade with eggplant and zucchini and the tuna roll were excellent. The owners are in the kitchen and serving so high quality and great service is assured. They also offer a €10 two course lunch with simpler food but no less satisfying.

A couple 100m from the city wall, in a rather busy street you find the sign, Buatino. Not much to see from outside, no outdoor tables but inside it's nice and inviting. Staff is english-speaking and most helpful. The food is locally based and well cooked. A limited number of well chosen courses. Pricing is very reasonable and would probably... More

The "locanda" welcomes you with a great atmosphere and music (we had dinner with James Taylor Quartet). Floors are typical of old places, tables are nice and food is amazing: fresh bread with nuts, genuin wine, pici with sausage, fresh pasta with pears and gorgozola. Not to mention meat and above all sweets. We had a typical cake with ricotta... More

This restaurant was recommended by a friend, who described it as serving excellent local food. Five of us went, and, to a person, were entranced with our food. I ordered the anchovy pasta. It was salty and rich. I had to adjust to the salt level, but, when I did - wow. I cannot remember what others ordered, but highly... More

I went there on a Wednesday with some friends and although just a couple of tables were taken, it took ages for our food to be ready. Presentation was really pretty, but that food itself didn't taste as much .. I got the lamb, my friends got different kinds of pasta and they weren't bad, but we weren't enthusiastic about... More

We stay here because of the hints in TripAdvisor. We were surprised to found a mael in high quality and very creative cooking. The price is very good.

My husband and I dined at this restaurant several times on the suggestion of the manager of the property we stayed at in Lucca. It is in a quiet street just outside of the old town and is a wonderful family run restaurant with loads of character. Their music theme is jazz and blues and the interior is warmly decorated.... We probably wouldn't have found this restaurant except that my daughter, who stayed nearby last autumn, recommended it - it's a 5-10 minute walk north of Porta S. Maria, but very much worth the effort! The menu is only in Italian, but the friendly staff will explain anything you don't recognize (the dishes change regularly and they are a bit... More

What a treasure to stumble upon. We were staying just over the road and called in one day to look at the menu and the waiter who spoke excellent English, explained in depth, the most local dishes from Lucca. We were not able to go that evening but returned the next day at lunch time. The waiter did not see... More

We spent five days in Lucca, and the dinner at the family driven restaurant Buatino was definitely the best!!! The tortelli with ragu and the pork with mushroom were recommended by the very friendly and knowledgeable staff, and totally met our expectations! They also provided us with information about the lucchese food and wine that were on their menu! For... More
