We were only staying in Florence for a few days and wanted to eat in a Restaurant to have a meal to remember, after all it was Valentines day. We were recommended this Restaurant and we made a reservation. Because it was so popular we had to take an early booking and at 7pm there were customers already queuing outside the door. You could never tell from the outside what to expect upon entering. There were barely any windows and there seemed to be one small room after another, after another. Just the name of the restaurant above the doorway and steps down. The food was sublime and we both had veal osso buco. It seemed criminal that it was so nice we couldn't eat it all for there was so much. We are normally light eaters but to see others tucking into their fiorentina steaks was a sight to behold. Great food, great traditional ambience, great service

Delicious meal and fantastic experience! They serve enormous pieces of meat to share! We were only 2 people and I don’t eat meat so I chose the fresh fish, boned at table side and my husband got lamb chops. Staff was friendly, table are cozy so we enjoyed talking to some locals as well as other travelers. Definitely make reservations you won’t be disappointed.

If you eat meat, you have to have Bistecca alla Fiorentina at least once while in Florence. Ristorante Buca Mario was recommended by our hotel for the "best" bistecca in the city. It's hard to say what is "best" in a city of amazing food, but the bistecca at Buca Mario certainly did not disappoint. Go with a group if you can, and steak for "due" really serves 3 or 4, particularly if you have a first course. Shout out to our waiter, Aldo, who was excellent.

Do you dream in Disney? Do you fondly remember your time in a Times Square Guy Fieri joint? Are you the type of tourist that enjoys a good trap? Do you like being treated like the cattle that ends up on your plate? Then come on in to this caricature of a “Florentine restaurant!” However if you are looking for an authentic experience look elsewhere. Not only was our steak Florentine for two severely overpriced (92 euro) it was as underwhelming as it was undercooked. (One thing they announce ahead of time the other they don’t.) the service is preposterously American as I assume makes up the bulk of their Midwestern clientele but they do seem to mean well so I’m not knocking the staff, it’s just weird to experience outside of the United States. I might not have bothered to write this review if one simple thing hadn’t happened. My wife who was an unwitting participant in the first place, asked one simple request after being served a slab of raw meat… can I have a pepper sauce or sauce of any kind at least? The waiter citing his obvious love of the still mooing platter declined despite the fact that other entrees included sauces of different varieties. He eventually dropped a collection of mustard Mayo and ketchup packets in front of her more to embarrass than to placate. This place represents everything wrong with mass tourism, but if you want to be treated to overpriced fare and a stilted experience that would embarrass even the most enthusiastic Olive Garden server by all means buon appetito.

We had diner in the restaurant , it was recommended by our hotel. I usually check the menu on internet, prior to arrival. In this case, they don't publish prices, now I understand they got a reason. In the moment we were there, it was too late...prices are so very high, with no reason, the place looks and feels like a second hand eatery. The menu is very diverse. The waiters are rude and put a lot of pressure to determine you to order the most expensive dishes and wine. Food comes fast and there is no pause between first and main course, they bring quickly everything in order to release the table. If you want atmosphere, this is not the right place. Tables are very close one to the other and there is no privacy, also the smell of the food from the neighboring table can drive you crazy (in our case it was an indian curry...while we had desert). Waiters make all kind of jokes, but not that funny. It seems they are making laugh by their clients. Food was mediocre, we had the classics of the tuscan cuisine but the quality and taste were in demand, a real tourist trap.

A local suggested we try Buca Mario so we walked in after a very long tour we had that day. We didn't have reservations, thank goodness it was low season as I'm sure it is impossible to get in. So far on our trip we had a lot of pasta, pizza and seafood so we all ordered the Grilled Beef Fillet with Roasted Potatoes as we were missing steak being from Texas. I couldn't believe when they arrived how big they were and no fat on them. This would have costs us hundreds of dollars in the States, but I felt they were very fairly priced for so much meat. I like my steak medium well and mine came out perfect for my taste (although it was medium). Unfortunately my husband and son's steaks were rare (they ordered them well done) so that was a big no for them, but the waiter admitted he put the order in wrong and sent them back to the chef. They came back quickly with the correct preparedness. I think they tend to go more rare than well done as a rule, so make sure you are explicit in what you want. They didn't make us feel bad for liking it well done though as some other reviewers stated. I love when they don't drench the steak in sauce, it was made simple with light seasoning. As if that wasn't amazing enough we ordered the Cremè Caramel and it was the most amazing dessert ever! The helped us put our coats on when we were ready to leave and gave us a souvenir apron.

In December we traveled to Florence, Italy, for the holidays. Our daughter found this restaurant on line and made a reservation for four with the little info available to her. We arrived and were surprised to find ourselves in a very classy place with actual Michelin stars. The food was beyond spectacular, heavenly, as was the wine and service. I ordered the filet in a pepper cream sauce. I expected a small, maybe 4 ounce filet and instead was served one large enough to share. It was melt in your mouth perfect . Each of us raved about our food choices. The cost for all of us, including wine and desert ,was LESS than a simple lunch of soup and an individual pizza we had at an outdoor seating cafe in Rome. We would go back in a heartbeat. In fact we made reservations to return again later in our stay.

Everything was so so good here. The house made cheese, the brown butter Cappellaci, the wild boar ragu, the wine, the ice cold Moretti beer, the cute little tote bags they give you at the end!!! A fantastic dining experience that can range from very high end to pleasantly affordable if so desired. Fantastic atmosphere and attentive staff round out the whole visit. A cavernous little wonder awaits you.

Definitely book in advance for this restaurant as it is extremely popular. Booking online is probably best as they do not answer the phones very often. The restaurant opens at 7pm and there was a line down the lock of people with reservations. We also had reserved but may people just stopped by trying to get a table and were disappointed. It is in a historic building below ground level. The service is top notch and the food was fabulous. Save room for the selection on the dessert cart!

We booked the 21:30 sitting prior to travelling as there is only two options and the first sitting was just too early for us. However from looking at other people’s tables I think they must of taken walk-in’s too between the two times. We chose here as were told this is the place to go to for a proper Florentine Steak and was glad that we did. Numerous locals recommended this place when we were in the city as the place to go. The restaurant itself is so much larger than we anticipated, the staff were very friendly and when I couldn’t decide on what dessert to have from the trolly they served me two smaller portions. For the two of us to have a 1.6KG steak it was 100 Euros which whilst a lot of money was good quality steak and even worked out cheaper than some of the tourist places here we saw it being advertised. Be aware that Florentine steak is served rare (see the photos) that’s how it comes and how it should be eaten. When we left I was given an apron which was a nice touch, and easy to pack to take home.

We were staying only 1 night in Florence and wanted to try the famous Bistecca Fiorentina. This great place very luckily had reservations available on the night. The restaurant has a very nice cosy atmosphere and very good service all around from front of house to waiters. The food was fantastic, me and my partner had the cappellaci for our first courses, one with butter and sage one with meat sauce. Both were delicious, the pasta itself so tender, the filling packed with freshness and flavour and the sauces so decadent. The main star of the show however was the Bistecca. The waiter brought out a ginormous T bone steak and carved it for us at the table, it was easily well over 1kg and possibly more. I've had some great steak across the US before now and this was one of the first from Europe that I've felt was really up there. It was cooked to perfection, was very tender and had a good bite of dry aged flavour. I can't believe we managed to finish it because it was gargantuan but a he'll of an experience. We finished of with a deliciously creamy homemade tiramisu which was the perfect end. If your staying for just one night this is the place to go! Don't believe any negative reviews on here they're from people who don't know good food when they see it.

We have been regular visitors to Florence and this is one of the restaurants we always go back to for one simple reason: it is one of the best. They serve only traditional Tuscan food and they cook it to the highest standards. Of the many Florentine restaurants we have been to over the years, Buca Mario serves the best bistecca alla fiorentina because the quality of meat and cooking are perfect. They specialise in meat dishes. Service is friendly and efficient, and they have a good range of reasonably priced excellent local wines.

Another wonderful experience at Buca di Mario. This centrally located ristorante is charming, the servers very attentive and the menu classically Tuscan. If you go, all of the waiters are fantastic, but Aldo is especially fantastic.

Everything was delicious, we were able to secure a last minute table in the garden. I would recommend booking so you can enjoy the atmosphere inside. Waiter spoke great English, was very friendly and knowledgeable. He gave us great food and wine recommendations. The maître’d was dressed with style and the restaurant was a real vibe. Towards the end of our meal, all the tables had left at the same time so we got forgotten after our mains and didn’t bother ordering dessert or coffee, which the waiter apologised when he realised. We had the homemade pasta to share which was one of the best pastas I have ever had and we shared the bass which was filleted in front of us. I would definitely return to this venue with a booking and seat inside.

We dined out often during our trip, and would have to say the service was absolutely impeccable at Buca Mario! From start to end, a perfect dinning experience. Our server was elegant and non aggressive or intrusive. He suggested the porcini salad, delicious. We wanted to split the primi pasta dish, no problems, he split it table side for us. Bistecca alla Fiorentina, amazing served table side and he cut the meat off the bone for us to share. Wonderful spot, you need to dine here when in Firenze!
