Established by a Swiss family, when Florence was still under the Medici Family, Gilli is the city’s oldest cafe – opened in 1733 as “Bottega dei Pani & dei Dolci” near the Duomo. It moved to Piazza della Repubblica in the early ‘90s, where it’s still located today, is the city’s only example of an Art Nouveaux style cafe. Over time, the business evolved according to the city’s transformations. In the mid-1800s it relocated from Via degli Speziali to its current location, on the same square as other historic venues, such as Caffe Paszkowski. It soon became a favorite of writers, artists, and actors from all over the world, and today is still the place where famous designers meet when in town

We couldn’t believe it when our bill came to €24 for one latte, one Fanta and one cake! How ridiculous! Go to the cafe exactly opposite over the square and you’ll pay €10 for all three. The staff were nice enough but did not make...More

Desserts were very good 4/5... Nevertheless service wasn’t very good as they delayed bringing the bill.. also it is not value for money as desserts vary from 5-10 for a small portion and coffee from 4-6 as well.

Textbook example of a place coasting on its name value and location. if you must go, just get coffee at the bar but don’t bother sitting down. The service is almost comically bad and the waiter I had acted like he was granting me regal...More

We did sit down for breakfast. The price for food and coffee is when siting at the restaurant is at least twice as much versus standing at the bar. Capuccino was great! Food was ok. Staff were very helpful. All in all great place but...More

Beautiful coffee place, great music at the background, serves excellent sweets and lunch, I tried the tiramisu which felt really soft and not at all sugary. Reminded me of old romantic times.

We’ve been making our way through Europe and going to places that have good TripAdvisor reviews, and everything has been great. However, we stepped into this covered area for lunch without checking since it seemed nice. Looks can be deceiving. It started out okay with...More

Florentia, as it was called by Latins, is permeated by
an eternal beauty spread in all corners of the city.
The historic center is characterized by the immensity
of the Duomo, able to transport tourists into the
brightest age of Florence: the Renaissance. Who does
not know the Brunelleschi Dome, San Giovanni
Baptistery and the Giotto’s Campanile? Everything is
enclosed here and it would be easy to imagine the city
