We visited this restaurant on a friend's strong recommendation and were so pleased by the experience. From the excellent service to the inimitable setting, Buca Lapi was one of our favorite things about Florence. And all of this before getting to the food! The Florentine steak was amazing. As I wrote in the title, my husband, a Texan, considers this... More

We go there every year and it has been an institution since a long time. As soon as you go down the steps you see a bustling kitchen on the right and the restaurant is usually packed. I would suggest you always book. Their pasta courses are fabulous as I am a pasta fanatic. They also have various meat dishes... More

One of the best restaurants I've eaten at in Italy. Lovely authentic/charming atmosphere, open kitchen, and attentive staff. As others have said, if you want bistecca fiorentina this is the place!

Waited for Buca Lapi to open on Monday, August 8th along with many others. According to website they open at 19:00 Monday through Saturday. At 19:40 we gave up. Might be they are closed Mondays or are on vacation. In either case their website should be kept up to date or they should have a sign on their door. Very... More

We went to this restaurant to try some authentic 'Bistecca Fiorentina' and boy were we surprised. The place is charming and the staff was very attentive. But more importantly the food here was divine. This is definitely a place to go for meat lovers. Its not cheap but worth ever single penny spent. The chocolate dessert was AMAZING! Heavenly. We... The experience we had of having diner at Buca Lapi was amazing ! We were welcomed admirably and without pretention. Very warm context, typical of florentine tradition since 1880. The waiters are professional and friendly, and the food is delicious. IT'S A MUST !

Buca Lapi firstly had an amazing atmosphere. We booked a week in advance and on the night it was full. There are two rooms, one in the front where the open kitchen lets you watch them cook and the back which was a bit more atmospheric as you could really see how you are eating in an old wine cellar.... While there are a number of dishes for those that do not eat land dwellers this is the place for steak while in Florence. We (party of 3) made reservations for an 830 dinner on a Friday. While the place didn't seem very busy we got the last reservation for the evening. Our table was in a room plastered with... More

The Buca Lapi definitely serves some fine Tuscan dishes. We tried crostini toscani, homemade pappardelle with veal ragu, and controfiletto steak. Everything was tasty, well prepared and nicely spiced. However something was missing. Considering the relatively high price you would expect something a bit more exceptional.

There are two "rooms" in this restaurant. There is one in the back which is walled off from the restaurant and then the table which are set in the room surrounding the open kitchen. The later is the place to sit. You can watch the steaks being cut with a cleaver and then cook on an open wood grill. Perfectly... More

Staying in Santa Maria Novella

Neighborhood Profile
Santa Maria Novella
Santa Maria Novella train station welcomes the majority of the people arriving in Florence, which might explain the hectic pace. Commuters and tourists come across the constant hustle and bustle of the station before exiting, taking a few steps and stopping amazed in Piazza di Santa Maria Novella. It is impossible not to admire the the square, housing one of the most charming basilicas in Florence. The area has plenty of local spots to taste Tuscan specialties, but don’t stop in the main streets alone; the narrower side streets always ensure satisfaction. The huge Parco Delle Cascine provides a solution to the need for a green area as well as a historic welcome in the form of a bronze statue of King Vittorio Emanuele II riding a horse.
