Went there for dinner. Recommended by our hotel. We had pasta and steak. Pretty good food. But nothing great. Good service and atmosphere.

We stayed around the corner at the Dedo Boutique Hotel. We walked by and read the menu. I would describe it at rustic Tuscan home cooking-exactly what we had been looking for after visiting Rome and Sorrento. We ordered the grilled chicken, the meatballs and the sausage with Tuscan beans. We then had several desserts and ordered more. The two... More

We went on the recommendation of our hotel, and we were not disappointed. This is a beautiful little place, with comfortable decor and friendly service. The food is superb. My parents ordered the Florentine steak for two, which was carved table side and was absolutely delicious. Everyone (teens to grandparents) was very, very happy with the meal.

We dined at Osteria Il Mostrino after a long day of walking Florence, seeing the sights - it was early for dinner (for Italy, that is), around 6:00pm - we were actually looking to eat at a place across the street but they did not open until 7:15pm... We were gladly welcomed to take a table at Osteria Il Mostrino... More

I am German, but I write this in English so many people coming to Firenze can understand my criticism. First of all I don't ever eat at the fast food restaurant with the big yellow M. When I go to a restaurant I don't have a problem to spend much money, but when I do, I expect something in return:... More

We enjoyed the wine and pasta and the friendly down to earth service. A small place but very welcoming and not too expensive.

Beautiful restaurant. The food was absolutely delicious so much so we came back on a second night. Our waiter Marco was extremely friendly and spoke really great English. Would highly recommend trying this restaurant.

This restaurant was recommended by our hotel on our first night in Florence. It was outside of the center, but a short walk from our hotel. It is a small, modest restaurant but the food and service were great. We ordered the skirt steak, minestrone soup (the best I've ever had), a great penne pasta with tomato sauce and olives... More

Staying in Santa Maria Novella

Neighborhood Profile
Santa Maria Novella
Santa Maria Novella train station welcomes the majority of the people arriving in Florence, which might explain the hectic pace. Commuters and tourists come across the constant hustle and bustle of the station before exiting, taking a few steps and stopping amazed in Piazza di Santa Maria Novella. It is impossible not to admire the the square, housing one of the most charming basilicas in Florence. The area has plenty of local spots to taste Tuscan specialties, but don’t stop in the main streets alone; the narrower side streets always ensure satisfaction. The huge Parco Delle Cascine provides a solution to the need for a green area as well as a historic welcome in the form of a bronze statue of King Vittorio Emanuele II riding a horse.
