We stayed at Villa S Andrea and had dinner here the night of arrival. The food was excellent as well as the wines. Wines by the glass are invisibly mostly from the estate itself and their Zobi is delicious. The staff is very friendly, both...the waiters and kitchen staff. Great atmosphere and nicely decorated. And to top it off, best Cantuccini I ever had and they also sell them in packages to take with you. Also if you don’t stay in Villa S Andrea worth the detour!More

We stayed at Villa S Andrea and ate here twice during our stay. What is particular nice about this restaurant is the Ambience they create with music and the stunning backdrop of the Tuscan hills. Wine is all local and well paired to the foods...and staff know what they are talking about and give great tips. The food is simply amazing. We have different meals both times and was really good. It’s not your traditional trattoria style food, this is modern takes on classics done very well. We will definitely return on our next Tuscan trip.More

The food is of excellent quality and the waiters are very kind and pleasant. Of course great food is one of the main reasons we come here, but the view is too beautiful not to mention. There are also a lot of vegetarian options which...I am very grateful for. You should absolutely buy a bottle of their wine and olive oil to take home!More

The food, the service, the view. Just stunning. Typical Tuscan food in a romantic atmosphere. Highly recommended.

I attended La Capanna Del Gallo with my wife, baby daughter and in-laws at lunch time. It was due to be our final meal before returning back to reality after a fabulous two week stay in the Tuscan hills. We had eaten so well on...the trip that I felt very little anticipation when we arrived, having not done a huge amount of research on the place before we arrived for lunch. Well I could not offer higher praise of this restaurant if I tried. I don't often give out 5 stars but I would place this as the best restaurant I had visited on my trip. Here's why: The building itself, as well as the view of the hillside vineyards and mountain landscape, was beautiful. They do not allow cars to park in front of the al fresco dining area so nothing spoils your view. That said, if you want to sit inside you can enjoy the cool comfort of sitting in what appears to be a converted chapel. Staff were super friendly and the service was to an high standard but welcomingly informal. At one point our 6 month old daughter attracted the attention of a waitress and off she went, for cuddles and Italian coo-ing and even a personal introduction to the kitchen and the rest of the waiting staff. We felt well looked after and not rushed at all. It was a quiet afternoon though, as it was slightly out of season for the locals who had all disappeared for the long weekend. Much to our benefit it appeared! Us gents started with a decent, crisp, local lager which took me back to the old days of drinking stubbies in France. We all moved on to wine - The list was varied and excellent, as was the glassware, served by the bottle or by the glass if you prefer. While my family didn't rave about their food too much (it was only lunch and they don't "live to eat" like me), my meal was absolutely flawless. So much so that I had to go and thank the chef and the team personally for such a great bit of cooking. Here's what I had: Zucchini Gnocchi in a butter sauce with truffle - This wasn't your typical gnocchi. It felt not only freshly made, but it was lighter, almost airy, but packed full of buttery flavour and seasoned to perfection. The amount of truffle was not only generous but perfectly portioned for the meal and every mouthful made me want to go back for more - unusual for such a rich and buttery dish. Roasted Octopus (See photo) - I have never eaten Octopus as good as this and I order it whenever I see it on the menu anywhere in Italy. It was absolutely stunning. The Octopus was cooked to a standard i have never experienced before and the depth of flavour honestly blew me away. It was accompanied by new potatoes on a bed of wilted spinach, which brought the whole dish together with earthy tones without obscuring the main event. It was perfect in every way. I think I talked about how good the food was for the next 48 hours hence why I offer this restaurant 5 stars. I also tried my wife's wild boar ragu which was again delicious if not a little "safe" as a choice on your last day in Tuscany. At 127 Euros for 2 beers, 4 glasses of wine, 4 x primi and 1 secondi, it was quite expensive but worth every single cent.More
