This restaurant was recommended by some ladies we met on our Cinque Terra Hike. Even though it is very close to the Duomo it really is not a "tourist" place. Try speaking Italian- they love it and the food is very tasty. Mangia and Enjoy

It was a hot day and my fiancé and I were feeling a little exhausted and overwhelmed after being swallowed up by crowds around the Duomo. I'd read that it was impossible to find a good meal near the Duomo, but luckily we happened on Sasso di Dante, a small restaurant tucked away on a side street, right by the... More

We were staying in an apartment in Florence and the owner recommended Sasso di Dante to us. It was really close to our apartment so we decided to try it. I'm so glad we did. We went early and I'm glad we did because it is a very small place and filled up fast. The location was great, right across... More

Located on a small side street behind the Florence Duomo, Sasso di Dante is excellent in all areas...wine, appetizers, pasta, meat, dessert and service. It is small and full of locals and reservations can be made on line.

Typical and historical restaurant, nice food, wines and service. Not too touristic. Make sure you ask for the day's dishes and let them advise you for the wine, and don't miss the homemade desserts.

The story is that Dante would dine here. Well not only could he write but he had excellent taste in restaurants. My wife and I had a delicious lunch. Very authentic northern Italian fare, reasonably priced. Gnocchi and Osso buco are fantastic.

this was one of my go-to locations for dinner. The food is phenomenal and the service is amazing. For contorni, you must try the spinaci e olio...simply the best in Firenze! During an extended stay with many visits to this restaurant, we only had good experiences.

Very nice atmosphere. Where there with a group and we had to wait for our table...with glasses of wine outside. Later on we had a menu with various dishes to taste. Amazing. Great staff and excellent food!

Sitting next to the Duomo, we had a wonderful lunch of home made pasta. We ate out on the patio and had the Duomo in full view and all of the hustle and bustle of Florence. Very enjoyable!

Staying in Duomo

Neighborhood Profile
Duomo
Florentia, as it was called by Latins, is permeated by an eternal beauty spread in all corners of the city. The historic center is characterized by the immensity of the Duomo, able to transport tourists into the brightest age of Florence: the Renaissance. Who does not know the Brunelleschi Dome, San Giovanni Baptistery and the Giotto’s Campanile? Everything is enclosed here and it would be easy to imagine the city as it was in ancient times, with maids walking in the main square and horses carrying coaches. Nowadays, roads are busy with street artists. Rustic Tuscan bakeries give way to fashion shops; just stop for a few minutes in the middle of Piazza della Repubblica to enjoy the colors and sweet melody of the carousel that will bring back great memories from anyone’s childhood.
