We arrived about 6:45pm but they seated us anyway. By opening at 7:00pm the line was out the door. No smoking inside - hurrah! Bread-in-a-bag included a sweet twist that had just a touch of a donut smell to it. How tasty! A medium-dry Proseco got us through salads and mains. Salads were caprese and Michelangelo and both were very... More

We were recommended to dine here by the owners (American) wife whom my wife had met earlier in the day at a local business. So we thought we would take a chance. Well, unfortunately we were very disappointed. We are Italian Americans and have been traveling throughout Italy since for more than 35 years. The food is mostly not typical... More

We had a great time here with the fine service and wonderful food. Came back twice in a week as we discovered a lovely setting and great value. English spoken here with a sense of humor as we tried our Italian language skills. Varied menu - something for everyone. Safe neighborhood and an easy walk from the Duomo and Accademia... More

We went with my parents and they took great care of my mom who has a lot of strange allergies and made the chicken parmesan to her specs, she said it was the best she ever had. We did the set menu and the beef Florentine was amazing

Our hotel recommended this restaurant to us and what a find it was! The staff were welcoming from the minute we stepped in and this included our children (boys aged 10 and 6 yrs). The menu is varied and has a selection to suit every taste. Added to this the food was excellent (this was the verdict of our children... More

Even with earthworks going on nearby, couldn't detract from our delicious pasta lunch, and a crisp, cold Chianti. To finish the owner suggested this beautiful crumble type cake which she had modified slightly from a traditional recipe. One of the best meals I've had in Florence.

the restaurant was recommended to us by our travel guide and we were very grateful for the recommendation. It is not touristy at all (even though it is on a plaza overlooking a major attraction - convent San Marco). It has that "everybody knows your name" feel. The food was excellent, the mushrooms delightful, and the owner personally attending to... More

We came to this restaurant more than once because the food, atmosphere and service were amazing for the price! And it's conveniently located at Piazza San Marco, just a short walk from the Duomo, Museum (David), Uffizzi. At dinner we had fantastic pasta Amatricione, and mouth watering Cavatelli with shrimp & saffron, ravioli with lobster, appetizer of salad and a... More

Staying in San Marco

Neighborhood Profile
San Marco
The pleasant atmosphere of this residential area, a stone’s throw away from the Duomo of Florence, surprises everyone. A continuous flow of backpacking students provides the tranquil surroundings for the elderly residents who sit in Piazza San Marco to read the daily newspaper. Home to several universities, including the Academy of Fine Arts, San Marco is one of the most vibrant cultural centers in the city. A bridge connecting the modern cultural activity of Florence to its classic art, represented by the everlasting magnificence of the original David, resonates as a symbol of Florence and of Italy as a whole. Get lost in a Neoclassic world, a journey back in time through historic buildings like Spedale degli Innocenti (Hospital of the Innocents), San Marco church, Basilica della Santissima Annunziata, and natural jewels like the Botanical Gardens.
