We were unsure of what sort of service we would get on a warm August eveing in one of Florence's most lovely squares. As it turned out, we were really pleased with the choice and quality of the food and also the friendliness of the staff. We were able to sit outside and enjoy the beautiful church as well as... We shared the Caprese pizza and salad of pear, walnut, fontina cheese and arugula. This was an excellent meal for a modest price. This healthy, Italian style pizza with fresh ingredients puts the fast food pizza chains to shame.

we had a light dinner, the seafood risotto was very tasty. the prices are a bit high, but i think it is worth! the service is very nice and staff and the location is very good as well. would i visit this terrace for next time? Hmm... probably no, but do not regret for overpaid bill.

Went for lunch there, after walking past it a few times. Liked it so much, we went back a couple of days later. Good service. High chairs for bambinos. Outdoor seating right on the piazza, which is a great spot to watch the world go buy. Indoor also pleasant. Great pizza - our top pick was one with rocket and... More

Good spot for people watching. Coffee was fine but the croissants were not great. I would not recommend this one

I visited here 4-5 times. Each time same quality and service. I recommend brucetta, lasagna and their pizzas most. Thanks Il Grillo.

I ate cheese and vegetables, and my husband had a delicious tuna dish. Wish I could remember more than that

We were in Florence for my son's wedding a couple of weeks ago, the first night we arrived there was sixteen of us. We came across this restaurant after the one next door could not accommodate us unfortunately. There was no room outside so one of the waiters showed us into a back room inside the restaurant which was empty.... More

We ate supper here, out in the beautiful sunshine and were very pleased with our meals, so please, in fact, that we ended up eating lunch here the following day. Lots of choices on the menu and near the Duomo as well as the kiosks that were set up nearby.

On the face of it the restaurant is typically Italian. We sat outside and it was very busy. We ordered pizzas which were undercooked and I had to ask for it to be warmed up. The ham was diced from processed and not authenticsliced ham. The waiters were not very attentive.

Staying in Santa Maria Novella

Neighborhood Profile
Santa Maria Novella
Santa Maria Novella train station welcomes the majority of the people arriving in Florence, which might explain the hectic pace. Commuters and tourists come across the constant hustle and bustle of the station before exiting, taking a few steps and stopping amazed in Piazza di Santa Maria Novella. It is impossible not to admire the the square, housing one of the most charming basilicas in Florence. The area has plenty of local spots to taste Tuscan specialties, but don’t stop in the main streets alone; the narrower side streets always ensure satisfaction. The huge Parco Delle Cascine provides a solution to the need for a green area as well as a historic welcome in the form of a bronze statue of King Vittorio Emanuele II riding a horse.
