This place was one of the best restraunts in Italy. I went there with my friend and we had pasta and florentine steak. The meal was just awesome. We had great service too. Thank you for the spritz and tiramisu! It was so nice! I am definitely going back when I go to Florence. I will recommend it to all... More

Slightly overpriced for the quality - extensive menu but nothing special. The 90s pop songs got a bit tedious after a while.

This restaurant was recommended by our hotel. Service was wonderful, Vana and Nicus did a wonderful job. Our dinner was second to none. I had the Osso Bucco, my husband and daughter had the Florentine Steak and my other daughter had the chicken breast. We finished with a delicious tiramisu. We expected to be good but it turned out to... More

We found this gem on our 2nd night in Florence, and have been so impressed we have not been able to convince ourselves to eat elsewhere for dinner since. Every dish we have had has been absolutely delicious. From the zucchini salad, to a variety of first plates (cappellacci stuffed with ricotta and walnuts is my absolute favorite, my husband... More

On a recommendation, we wondered into this narrow street near the city centre and close to the railway station. It is a traditional Italian Restaurant - smart waiters, excellent service. The food was delicious - I had the Fillet steak - very good. It was quite busy, but we did not book a table. Met people from all over the... More

We came here because the place up the street (da Giorgio) that came recommended by Rick Steves was packed with at least 6 names on the waiting list. I'm so glad we ended up someplace else. We had a quiet evening with delicious food and reasonably good service. (OK, so the whole restaurant only had two waiters who were really... More

We visited this restaurant on the advice of our Concierge at the St Regis. We were in Italy for our Honeymoon. It's a small restaurant and quaint. I forget right now whether they had an English version of the Menu. The website does have an English version so perhaps they do. There was one server fluent in English and another... More

Our tour guide from the Eco Tours (electric cart tour...saved our feet and got us all over and close to everywhere) Mauricio recommended this place. The Peperoncino has quite a nice romantic ambiance. We got an early dinner at 7pm, we were the first ones for dinner. I finally figured out Italians start dinner pretty late compared to USA. We... We went there four middle aged ladies at the recommendation of our hotel. We had a reservation and were greeted with joy. After that our own joy was minimal. We got a table almost in a corridor and two groups of people that came later got better tables. We were still waiting for the vine when they got their food... More

Staying in Santa Maria Novella

Neighborhood Profile
Santa Maria Novella
Santa Maria Novella train station welcomes the majority of the people arriving in Florence, which might explain the hectic pace. Commuters and tourists come across the constant hustle and bustle of the station before exiting, taking a few steps and stopping amazed in Piazza di Santa Maria Novella. It is impossible not to admire the the square, housing one of the most charming basilicas in Florence. The area has plenty of local spots to taste Tuscan specialties, but don’t stop in the main streets alone; the narrower side streets always ensure satisfaction. The huge Parco Delle Cascine provides a solution to the need for a green area as well as a historic welcome in the form of a bronze statue of King Vittorio Emanuele II riding a horse.
