We stumbled on this place on Borgo Ognissanti after a long, grueling, 11-hour bus tour of Tuscany. Surely we deserved a nice meal near our hotel to recover from the day's touristic exertions. So we entered "Il Profeta" and were warmly greeted and ushered to a table. Out English-fluent waiter, while slightly overbearing, did a good job of introducing us... More

We love the Borgo Oggnisanti area and to be introduced to this restaurant by the St. Regis concierge who helped us with reservations was also really nice. Mr. Claudio Pieri is the family ownership (his uncle founded restaurant). This is an upscale family style restaurant (oxymoron) which harks back to the mid-20th Century. Try the Banto Il Profeta, a homemade... More

Superb restaurant! Greeted warmly by the owner (Momma) who immediately seated us and brought water to the table. Waiter was excellent and asked where we're from and switched to excellent English the rest of the meal. Great explanation of the dishes convincing me to try the boar and polenta. He was right! Chianti suggestion superb. Ladies had gnocchi, ravioli and... More

If you are in Florence, then you must make a reservation and have a meal here. I can't say enough marvelous things about this restaurant. We were in Italy for 13 days including Rome, Amalfi Coast and Venice. This restaurant, by far, was our best dining experience.

This was a high point. The meal was great and the owner was a hoot. He enjoyed interacting with his customers.

This may be a strong boast but I truly had a fantastic meal there. I was part of a Tauck tour and one of our dinners was at Il Profeta. The owner greeted us, explain ended the menu and made recommendations. From there you sit back and enjoy. We were a table of 9 and everyone had different dinners and... More

Upon arriving at the restaurant with a reservation made, we were served by a waiter (not knowing he is the owner of the restaurant). We came just for the 'famous dish' and the rest of the dishes are recommended by him. We are very pleased with his humble, funny, and friendly attitude. I specificly told him we will be sharing... Have been coming to this place since 1982 and it's consistently great. While it caters to an English-speaking crowd (which ordinarily would be a death knell for most places), the food is consistently wonderful and the Tiramisu is out of this world delicious. The owner is there to ensure the service and the food are good and he constantly walks... More

We have been here twice now as we had absolutely had to return there the second time we visited Florence! This time it was Martin that excelled as our waiter and he did not disappoint us! The first time in I ordered the veal and this time I ordered from the renaissance menu and what a treat it was! Both... More

Staying in Santa Maria Novella

Neighborhood Profile
Santa Maria Novella
Santa Maria Novella train station welcomes the majority of the people arriving in Florence, which might explain the hectic pace. Commuters and tourists come across the constant hustle and bustle of the station before exiting, taking a few steps and stopping amazed in Piazza di Santa Maria Novella. It is impossible not to admire the the square, housing one of the most charming basilicas in Florence. The area has plenty of local spots to taste Tuscan specialties, but don’t stop in the main streets alone; the narrower side streets always ensure satisfaction. The huge Parco Delle Cascine provides a solution to the need for a green area as well as a historic welcome in the form of a bronze statue of King Vittorio Emanuele II riding a horse.
