This restaurant was close to our hotel and received good reviews so we decided to try it. The food and service were both so excellent we decided to go back the next night. We were treated like old friends. I was having a pasta dish but my husband and daughter were not so they brought them each a taste of... More

I stumbled upon this restaurant about 10 years ago and vowed I would return to have one of their signature dishes (a creamy pasta served in a parmesan bowl). This was our *first* stop when we arrived in Florence for our August 2016 trip. It did not disappoint! Upon the owner, Claudio, hearing that I was a return guest, he... More

Fabulous food. We got waited on by the owner who could not have provided better service and was quite entertaining. One of the highlights of our trip to Florence. Expensive, but well worth it for both the food and the experience.

Excellent food but one or two dishes were very different from what we expected. They were probably prepared the way they were supposed to taste, however. Menu had condensed English translation on some but not all dishes. Some things got lost in translation. The very best bruschetta we've ever had. Incredible Capri salad. Desserts were fantastic. Annoying up-sell by wait... More

Il Profeta is a lovely, small restaurant. We walked in on a Friday evening around 8 knowing that reservations are highly encouraged, but lucked out and were seated immediately at the one open table. The maitre d' is a lovely woman, we enjoyed every time she stopped by, and the rest of the staff are fantastic as well! Our server... More

We took a punt and walked in here after seeing a waistcoat-wearing waiter working the tables at the front of the restaurant. There was something classic-looking about the scene and my interest was piqued. So glad we ventured inside - and grateful we were seated within minutes and treated brilliantly by the attentive and charismatic staff. Entree consisted of a... More

Came here for lunch - so glad that we've found a hidden gem! Food was superb. This will be considered as fine dining in Florence so it is slightly pricey. But it was very enjoyable. Highly recommended.

Fantastic homemade classic Italian food. Our waiter was superb, extremely funny and he knew the menu inside and out. He translated every dish that we were not familiar with or that did not have a description in English. They are famous for their steaks topped with lard instead of butter, but the steaks were just good not great. Their traditional... More

We had a terrible meal in a different restaurant the night before so were really keeping our fingers crossed for something special on this particular evening. We were the first to arrive at the restaurant but it soon filled up. The maitre'd Martin explained the entire menu for us and described the house specialities giving us options of how we... More

Staying in Santa Maria Novella

Neighborhood Profile
Santa Maria Novella
Santa Maria Novella train station welcomes the majority of the people arriving in Florence, which might explain the hectic pace. Commuters and tourists come across the constant hustle and bustle of the station before exiting, taking a few steps and stopping amazed in Piazza di Santa Maria Novella. It is impossible not to admire the the square, housing one of the most charming basilicas in Florence. The area has plenty of local spots to taste Tuscan specialties, but don’t stop in the main streets alone; the narrower side streets always ensure satisfaction. The huge Parco Delle Cascine provides a solution to the need for a green area as well as a historic welcome in the form of a bronze statue of King Vittorio Emanuele II riding a horse.
