About
In the lively and crowded environment of the Central Market of San Lorenzo, in the heart of the city of Florence, was founded the restaurant Za Za, in one of the buildings survived at the time ... Or maybe it's better to say that it is here that still lives: where now Za Za, in fact, since the early nineteenth century there was a small inn. It is 1977 when Stefano Bondi, born at number 18 of the Main Market Square in the old house of aunt Tonina , baptizes with the name Za Za this dining room and open to the public. It was April 7. At that time, Zà Zà was a small restaurant. Stefano Bondi worked with his mother from the beginning. Her role was fundamental in Bondi’s life, as well as being the soul of the restaurant, to which she devoted her whole life. A dish is not born by chance. In addition to creativity, which is indispensable, it requires “technique and common sense, an attention to timing, to each ingredient, and to the condiments, too…”.

We've gone here two separate nights and they have met our expectations in general. First of all if you wanna go here at night for dinner, you better make reservations. They take online reservations via their website and reply you immediately. The first night we went at peak time, the service was good and the meals (pasta and fired artichoke) we ate were delicious. There was nothing we didn't like at all. But the second time we went like 9 pm and it was 9:30 by the time we ordered. The whole saloon was empty and the meal (pasta and steak) served at 22:20. This is the reason why I break one point. But I can not say this is a bad place. In fact Za Za has become one of the best places we visited during our trip.

What a place! We got recommended this place from a friend who also visited a few years back and were not disappointed!
Booking is definitely recommended though as it’s extremely busy.
The staff are super friendly and speak good English, the menu is vast and has so much tasty food! We went for the fillet steak (beef) covered in truffle with new potatoes, carbonara with ham and truffle, french fries with truffle all washed down with 1ltr of house white wine (which was €12!). Dessert was tiramisu and amaretti with dessert wine.
The overall price was very reasonable (around €70) for 2 people and 2 courses. Make sure you go and check it out!

My wife and I went in the middle of February and ordered a truffled carbonara. While the dish was very good, the taste of truffles was very faint.
But the biggest problem was that we were seated inside (there are 4 “aquariums” on the sidewalk + a lot of room inside the restaurant) next to the kitchen exit. Several times during our meal a strong smell of sewage could be felt. I took some time to get the attention of one of the waiters and when we explained what happened they didn’t seem to understand or care. We were taken to another table by the door (through which cold air came in every time someone entered) but received no apology from anyone.

I went directly without a reservation and was arranged to wait 2 minutes to be seated.
Then the staff introduced us delicious food, we also chose steak and black truffle risotto and red wine.
I think the quality and price of the food is very reasonable, because the food is delicious.
And the service of the waiters was very friendly. Although they were also busy, they had a smile on their faces.
This is the best valueable restaurant I've ever eaten in Italy.

Make a reservation for sure! On a Friday night, even with a reservation, you will wait in line to announce your arrival and then hang tight for a few more minutes before a table is secured. The food was quite good, the service was adequate but due to the waiters dodging so many waiting patrons, the food was not as hot as it could have been. Be prepared to sit outside... though heated, you will still need to keep your coat with you for dinner! It gets chilly seated by the vinyl partition.

Busy place due to it’s location but the service is friendly and the food is good ; tomato/mozzarella tartare, gnocchi with fresh crab (way salty though), spaghetti carbonara and pappardelle, duck truffeled sauce and the house speciality truffeled french fries (just fries with truffles poured on it).
Not cheap: 67€ for 2 without drinks.
If you’re just looking for a very standard lunch you can stop by but you can find a better quality/price balance.

Seafood spaghetti was one of the best I’ve ever had but the carbonara tasted quite ordinary. Would still return again to try other dishes. A comfortable environment, but the restaurant could do with more staff as we often struggled to get the attention of a waitress.

I've always enjoyed our visits over the yearsto Zaza but on our last two visits have been disappointing.
We went without a reservation and were happy to stand in the queue but were then placed on a table for 6 sharing with two other parties of 3 and 2 as one poor lady had been squeezed onto the end. There was not enough room for the food and we had to resort to balancing one dish on top of the wine carafe and putting our bread on the floor. It was very cramped and not nice.
Undaunted we went again but this time with a reservation - a table to ourselves and food ok but not as good as I had remembered and it felt too busy;noisy and a rushed service .
Every time we visit Florence the restaurant it has expanded and become more of a tourist trap. Whilst I wish them every success it has lost what I loved about it and is not for me anymore.

We visited the restaurant Mar 2020 when tourist and local traffic was very very low. The other thing which may have been different was that Ciao, our Tour service, had its Italian Associates make the reservation which may have been different. Our Daughter and her family of husband and 3 kids ate there in April 2019 and praised this highly. The 13 year old boy praised the truffle pasta as best he had. His Mom, Dad and brother and sister helped him eat it even as he protested. We had the Ravioli di tartuf and Risotto tarfur along with an apertif, bottle of wine and Panna Cotta and Bicchiere. Both my wife and I really enjoyed our dinner, the service was excellent, there when needed but let us alone when didn't and the cost was little high. It is on the square and probably little overvalued but we enjoyed it. This dinner cost more than normal but we had a 4 course meal and drinks. There are many restaurants listed which maybe better but this place met our expectations. It was about 10 minutes from our Hotel Touring at which we were staying

I normally don’t write reviews. But bc I do use reviews, the disappointing service and disappointing food here moved me to do a service for other consumers. Yup, it’s that level of disappointment. Hosts that greeted and seated us had uppity attitudes and gave a corner table on bottom floor when many other available; told us we needed to wait to order bc only one waiter in that area. Nothing memorable about the food except too salty. The hype here is not real, don’t waste time waiting in line or bother with reservations. We did have reservations.

If you're looking for an intimate, cosy and welcoming Italian restaurant to while away an evening, Trattoria Zaza is the one. It has built up a strong reputation among the area, but its traditional food and friendly staff make it worth the journey in Florence. It is situated close to the Central Market of San Lorenzo, in the heart of the city of Florence.
I had spaghetti with prawns and truffle and a delicious appetizer. The price was fair for what we ate; the quality of the pasta was supreme.
The only drawback was the menu, there were too many options.

Funny, they sat us in what I called the "American Section" as there were several tables of us. Made sense as our waitress spoke good English. This was our first Steak in Italy and it did not dissappoint. We had a Filet that came with Roasted Potatoes and we ordered Spinach on the side, all were seasoned perfectly! Side Note, we were going to order ours medium rare and the waitress suggested medium, which was equivalent to our med rare. The meat is aged and redder for some reason. To date this was one of our better meals, even with wine/water the bill was very reasonable!

Given the number of reviews this restaurant had, I should have figured that this place is overly touristy, but we decided to give it a shot. Needless to say from the decent food to the server who was overly showy, it almost felt like an Italian place in Times Square.
In regards to the food: the four crostini plate (fresh tomato, liver pate, mushrooms, and tomato sauce was... quaint. My gnocchi with Gorgonzola and truffles was fine but overly creamy and honestly light on the truffles. The mascarpone cheese pudding with raisin biscotti was a fun, lite twist to end meal with.
But when all was said and done, it felt like eating a pretty good Italian place back home. Not worth the crowds and cacophony which accompany an evening at the restaurant.

My family dined here last week before a scheduled museum visit, so we had limited time. This can be difficult in Italy but our waiter and all the staff were very accommodating. We chose to sit outside but the inside was also open and looked attractive. We started with a charcuterie board and ordered some local specialties like papardelle pasta with a lamb ragout. Outstanding flavor and great value! The wines were very good and the whole experience was great. We'd go back again!
