Went as a table of five. Initially given a place in the wine cellar. For us it was a bit cramped and claustrophobic. We were then moved to a very cool room which was great. They were very apologetic. Food is typical Tuscanese. The crostini with liver was warm and tasty. The cured ham is divine. We only had first courses and no fuss was... More

We are fortunate to know a friend of the owner who at the last minute was able to make a reservation for seven people. We ate in the wine cellar which was a wonderful experience. The fact we were eating surrounded by hundreds of bottles of wine that were worth thousands of euros was very exciting. The food was outstanding... More

We were just in Florence, so it's high season ,lots of tourists, so reservations are a must at most places. We made a reservation at 9:00pm, showed up at 8:55, and sadly weren't seated until 9:30pm. However the host was very nice, you get a glass of prosecco while waiting, which is a nice touch. Once seated, there were four... More

Oh. And that "oh" refers to our waiter. Sometime table juggling can be really difficult, but it does happen (if a 7.pm booking turns up 40 minutes late it can skew the evening...), and thank you so much for your understanding. Florence is high season all year round! So booking is always advisable - really easy to do via our... More

Our first night in florence we went to L'Osteria di Giovanni and got a wonderful warm welcome. They offered us lovely glasses of processeco and salted zeppolas to tide us over until the meals came. We had a lovely first course of caprese salad and then we shared the taglitelli with boar and the braised guinea hen. It was a... More

Super - your evening was a success and that is always good to hear. Sharing a pasta course is always a good idea to avoid over-ordering! We often recommend that ourselves. More

Went here because of a recommendation from friends and we loved every minute of it. Giovanni met us at the table, welcoming us with a glass of Prosecco which was followed by incredible food at a reasonable price. Our best meal in Florence.

We enjoyed tonight's meal. The service was kind and personable. We chose to order from the specials. They were amazing. The lobster pasta and Osso bucco were a Memorable choice. But the star was the Lemon Cake and Panna Cotta. Please visit and pass along the recommendation! The service charge is easily understood with the Prosecco, biscotti and Lemon Granita... More

Had a fabulous family dinner at this small, family-owned restaurant in Florence. It was recommended by our long time Florence tour guide and we were not disappointed. It was very busy and i was glad we called ahead for a reservation. A mix of tourists and locals appeared to be diners. Traditional Italian dishes included caprese insalad and prosciutto &... More

You are right that in Florence we cannot achieve the lower temperatures produced in northern America. Our air-con systems are just less efficient and the thick walls of our buildings don't help either, by trapping the heat! But we are delighted that you had a wonderful meal anyway! And yes, here we have lots of tourists (of course! this is... More

Description
At L’Osteria di Giovanni we not only maintain strict allegiance to traditional Tuscan dishes (including many antique recipes that are not commonly used these days), but we also experiment with new flavours and combinations, whilst remaining faithful to local and season produce. Popular new dishes include smoked duck breast on rocket salad and dressed in balsamic vinaigrette, tortelli stuffed with pear and pecorino, with leek and paprika sauce, pici with sausage and kale, and lamb slow-cooked with artichokes. We stronly believe that your restaurant experience should be unique and satisfying on every front. We look forward to welcoming you one day to L'Osteria di Giovanni.

Staying in Duomo

Neighborhood Profile
Duomo
Florentia, as it was called by Latins, is permeated by an eternal beauty spread in all corners of the city. The historic center is characterized by the immensity of the Duomo, able to transport tourists into the brightest age of Florence: the Renaissance. Who does not know the Brunelleschi Dome, San Giovanni Baptistery and the Giotto’s Campanile? Everything is enclosed here and it would be easy to imagine the city as it was in ancient times, with maids walking in the main square and horses carrying coaches. Nowadays, roads are busy with street artists. Rustic Tuscan bakeries give way to fashion shops; just stop for a few minutes in the middle of Piazza della Repubblica to enjoy the colors and sweet melody of the carousel that will bring back great memories from anyone’s childhood.
