Hidden away in a side street in the Museum Quarter is a gem of an Italian restaurant. Seating no more than 30 people in a cosy room you can expect genuine Fresh pasta and pizza cooked to order. The set daily menu is extremely good value: 3 courses for €16. Appetisers are traditional fare at around €8 Pasta and pizza... More

This is a beautiful restaurant. From the street it looks small, but inside it's quite large and the decor is wonderful. The staff were right on the ball, attentive, but not pushy. Had the tagliatelle with white truffles and I wanted it to last forever. Wine is expensive. I was about to order a bottle, and the waiter told me... More

Oh booking in advance is much the best option - easy from our website! Our house wines (red and white) are really very good plus we have an extensive cellar for those who definitely have a need for something a little special. We are pleased to learn that our staff are attentive but not pushy! That's just how they should... More

We ended up eating here by mistake- but it was worth the mistake. The food was very good; just lacking any sort of romantic atmosphere.

Oh. Well mistakes can happen, we are pleased this was a good one. We agree - we are not "classic romantic" - we are fun, bustling, sometimes too noisy, fun, cosy ... but candlelit lovey-dovey we are not. We are so pleased that you enjoyed it anyway. Thank you so much. More

We were greeted here with a glass of prosecco... set an immediate intimate, friendly tone. We chose an antipasto platter which was quite large - plenty to share for 2 or even 4, but filled with different varieties of prosciutto. After a steak dinner, we were too full for dessert, but were brought a plate of 10-12 biscotti and a... More

We are so sorry but we are laughing! "Limoncello/gelato slush drink"! It is called sgroppino. That is tart lemon sorbet, a slosh of vodka and topped up with dry proscecco. But you are right - it's a kind of wonderful lemon slosh! We are so pleased that you enjoyed everything. Thanks for choosing us. More

A few streets west of the bustle of tour groups and masses of people can be found quiet and the wonderful palace of Tuscan food, L'Osteria di Giovanni. Run by the Latini family it is the classic Tuscan osteria with great local food, warm servers who have excellent English, and a sense of enjoyment in the food, their service, and... More

Wow what a meal choice! The grilled pigeon we are most proud of - an ancient Tuscan dish and a recipe that has not changed literally for centuries. We are proud that you enjoyed it so much. Thanks so much for taking the time to tell everyone about your meal in such detail - we think your review will be... More

I really loved it. I think it was even better than the one that I had at Peter Luger's in Brooklyn, NY. (And the price was cheeper than there!) And the staffs were gentle and kind. We went there at about 6:30 pm without noticing that the dinner starts at 7 pm. But the staffs let us in and stay... More

So this restaurant came recommended as having the best Bistecca a la Fiorentina in Florence. A bold claim but one I can wholeheartedly agree with. The meat was perfectly cooked, well seasoned and deliciously tender. I had Bistecca a number of times in Florence and this was the best by a margin. The negative is really everything else. The restaurant... More

Oh! Oh oh oh! Oh on so many levels :-( We are of course delighted that you enjoyed your steak and thank you so much for commenting so positively about it. But everything else "a negative" makes us want to cry into our leopard skin aprons. A tin? We have no tins, no microwaves, no processed foods, no short-cuts in... More

We make a reservation to eat here long before we arrive in Florence and we love it every time. Our visit this summer was as good as always! From the fried bread to the last morsel of dessert, you are in for a treat. We really loved the appetizers this meal - especially the mushroom salad special. Their house wines... More

I attended as part of a large tour group for dinner. As we were part of a group, I didn't get the opportunity to choose from the menu but what was provided from the set menu was good. The staff were very adept at managing special dietary requirements and service was prompt and courteous. It was a little expensive for... More

Where we can accommodate special dietary needs we are happy to do so. We are so glad that it worked out for you. Just so that everyone knows, we do not operate a set-menu except for specially-arranged ones for larger groups, which we are perfectly happy to do. We are delighted you had a good evening. More

Make a reservation. Loved the Italian atmosphere, awesome food, wonderful drinks, wine, lemoncello. The breads were delicious. My kids are 6&9 and this one of their favorite restaurants. Multiple courses, yummy desserts. Highly recommend.

Description
At L’Osteria di Giovanni we not only maintain strict allegiance to traditional Tuscan dishes (including many antique recipes that are not commonly used these days), but we also experiment with new flavours and combinations, whilst remaining faithful to local and season produce. Popular new dishes include smoked duck breast on rocket salad and dressed in balsamic vinaigrette, tortelli stuffed with pear and pecorino, with leek and paprika sauce, pici with sausage and kale, and lamb slow-cooked with artichokes. We stronly believe that your restaurant experience should be unique and satisfying on every front. We look forward to welcoming you one day to L'Osteria di Giovanni.

Staying in Duomo

Neighborhood Profile
Duomo
Florentia, as it was called by Latins, is permeated by an eternal beauty spread in all corners of the city. The historic center is characterized by the immensity of the Duomo, able to transport tourists into the brightest age of Florence: the Renaissance. Who does not know the Brunelleschi Dome, San Giovanni Baptistery and the Giotto’s Campanile? Everything is enclosed here and it would be easy to imagine the city as it was in ancient times, with maids walking in the main square and horses carrying coaches. Nowadays, roads are busy with street artists. Rustic Tuscan bakeries give way to fashion shops; just stop for a few minutes in the middle of Piazza della Repubblica to enjoy the colors and sweet melody of the carousel that will bring back great memories from anyone’s childhood.
