Went to 4 Leoni mid august… Party of 4 . Made reservations in advance because the restaurant is always full …lunch and diner. The food was very good and service more so. As we were eating diner, it started raining , thunderstorms It went on throughout our diner . We had walked to the restaurant approximately 30 min from our hotel. Cosimo a nice waiter (wasn’t our waiter) came to our table and offered us a Limoncello glass to wait out the rain. He went out of his way to find us a taxi and even gave my niece a table cloth as a blanket to cover herself because she was cold. Service goes a long way.

This is a very convenient Trattoria on the way to the Palazzo Pitti on the south side of the city, across the Arno river. Yes, the Fiochetti di pera is really that good! The tortelli mughellani al sugo Toscano was also delicious. We started our meal splitting an order of the Carciofi con lardo e pecorino and a 4 leoni salad. The prices were very reasonable - our bill (the above plus two glasses of wine and a beer) came to E100. The service was very good and we were not in a hurry, but I am not sure I would recommend this for people with limited time. It is very popular, and best to have your hotel call and make a reservation rather than chance being disappointed.

It's been six months since our trip to Italy, and still I dream about the food here. Try the fiocchetti di pera in salsa di taleggio e asparagi, their signature homemade pasta stuffed with pear in a creamy taleggio sauce with asparagus, or the ossobucco. Our meals here were the best of our two-week trip to Italy. Seriously, it was so good we ate here twice. The waitstaff were very friendly and helpful making recommendations and translating the menu. Book a table in advance. You will not regret it. (Note: we were a family of five with kids ages 13, 15, and 17, including one vegetarian).

Was pretty disappointed with this restaurant given all the great reviews I was looking forward to trying it. The restaurant is nicely situated near the palace which is great but I was disappointed that the menu was in Italian and was not explained by anyone. We played it safe and ordered lasagnas which were ok not anything memorable or really even that flavoursome. The highlight of the meal was the cheese cake this was really yummy and was worth the price. However they charged 6 euro for very poor quality bread that didn’t taste fresh. We didn’t even eat this yet we’re charged for two lots of bread I thought this was pretty out of line and it again wasn’t explained to us until we were handed the bill they also didn’t give any oil for it. I wouldn’t recommend eating here as there are so many better places in Florence that one could go to.

We went there on the recommendation of a friend from Florence, the reputation seemed unbelievable. In fact, this restaurant is probably too famous now to consider and treat its clients as guests? the food is very good, and the service at the table is efficient and friendly. BUT we were "welcomed by a room and terrace manager absolutely closed and unpleasant. And when it was time to pay, the guy just assumed the contactless payment rules were the same as Italian ones? he took my Amex for a 100€ bill, and when it didn't work (50€ max) get upset about it. He did the same with my Visa and when we tried to explain we just had to put a PINCODE, he became furious, because didn't understand a word of English? and not trying to make any effort though. We won't be back, there are so many good restaurants in Firenze, you always have a better choice for exquisite food + smile :)

My wife, daughter and I ate an early dinner here tonight. We arrived at 6 with a reservation and were seated right away. The waiter promptly left a sack of various breads on the table and some of them looked pretty tasty. Out of the 10-12 breads delivered I'd guess we collectively ate 4. They were decent but would have been better warmed. Had I known they were going to charge us 9 Euro for them at the end of the night I would have insisted they be warm. We struggled a bit to order since the menus are in Italian, but my daughter quickly figured out that she could open the menu from the website and then use google to translate it. I'm sure much got lost in the translation but we had enough to get our order in. My wife and daughter decided to order Pear Ravioli and Eggplant Pharma and split them. I had Lasagna. Our food was out and all three dishes were delicious. At the end of the night the girls agreed that should we visit again they would order the Eggplant as their main. The pasta dishes were all priced at Euro 14, so fair value there. The highlights (delicious past, quick and professional service, a fast kitchen, fair pricing) far out weigh the low lights (no English menu and being charged for bread we didn't order), so I rate the place 4 stars.

We arrived and we tried hard to speak (out of respect) Italian to the waiter and explain we had a reservation. The waiter was on the phone the entire time he found our booking and then saw us to our table. It was busy in the restaurant, and the lack of service showed this! We are pretty clued up on Italian food and how to order, so we knew we wanted two pasta dishes as our primi dishes and then go onto the Florence steak with a couple of sides. However when it came to ordering the waiter snatched the menu out of my hands and said we didn’t want to order what we’d decided. We ended up (out of confusion of the language barrier) going with his recommendations. The pear ravioli was lovely, and the steak delicious. But it really would have been better if we had stuck to our decision of having some sides too! We then tried to order two double espressos, and they were extremely watered down and no crema at all. Price was fair, but service was lacking. We didn’t leave a tip.

This was the only restaurant that had been recommended to us when we visited Florence last week and we were so excited to get reservations. We were not disappointed. Pear ravioli?? What even is that?? Amazing is what it is. On top of the cool atmosphere and great food, they were great with my sister in law who has many food allergies and made sure that also had an awesome meal/experience.

My wife and I first ate here more than 30 years ago. It was a local restaurant for people who were artisans in the Oltano which was then a working class neighborhood. The food was very good, waiters friendly (especially when we were there with locals) and it was relatively inexpensive. Over the years the Oltrano has become fashionable in the manner of Williamsburg and Dumbo. 4 Leone has remained true to its traditions but is now on many lists of fine authentic Tuscan restaurants and it deserves to be. If they remember you they will try to find a table if you agree to be prompt and come early, but reservations are more or less essential and well worth it.

I liked the food but it’s not special. I’m a real fish enthousiast and I found that The tuna was too “fishy”, could be better prepared, thereby I think it wasn’t as fresh as it should be. Better give less tuna in the future but better quality. The wine was exceptional though. Lamole di lamole chianti 2018. Also for a really good price. The price on Vivino for the wine was 26 euro’s while I paid 30 in the restaurant. I don’t know if this is something Italian but this is nowhere to be seen in Holland.

4 Leoni is a wonderful restaurant. My meal, including their signature pear fiochetti and out of this world cheesecake was absolutely delicious, and my waitress was so kind. Also, it’s situated in a lovely, quiet piazza. I’ve already recommended this very special restaurant to about 10 people, and I will return for sure next time I’m in Florence.

Visited 4 Leoni on our recent trip to Florence. The experience was as good as I remembered from my last visit 10 years ago. Can recommend booking in advance (online) as the restaurant was full on a Thursday evening. Good service, nice wine and tasty food. I recalled that the tiramisu was the best that I had ever had and this time it lived up to expectations. Highly recommended.

OMG. That’s all we could say while eating here. The food is incredible, and is easily one of the best meals I’ve ever had and I have dined in multiple Michelin star restaurants. So good we were speechless, and the price was so so good. We had two types of pasta, wine and dessert and it was 65 euro. We watched several beautifully cooked, large steaks go by that would have easily cost 250 USD (listed at 55 euro). Just amazing food and good service. The menus are all in Italian but the staff gave excellent help and recommendations. A must go in Florence.

We enjoyed this place so much. The wait staff was business like but friendly. Food was excellent - nice to get a really good salad, and the pasta (pici and taglierini) were to die for. The waiter sold us on dessert and it didn’t disappoint - the best italian style cheesecake with tart frutti di boschi I have ever had. Not too sweet and sublimely creamy. We will return!

My husband and I arrived to this restaurant after hearing great things. We left having mixed feelings about our experience. We arrived at typical dinner time and there was already a long line. The host wouldn’t even look in the direction of the people in line, (mostly American tourists.) When I went into the restaurant to ask him how long the wait was after already waiting 30 minutes , I noticed several empty tables inside. He was a master at avoiding eye contact but after some persistence, he told me ten minutes for a table inside. After waiting nearly 20 more minutes, (we were chatting with another nice couple,) I went in and asked him politely if I could be seated outside since there were several empty tables. Meanwhile, my husband and several other people noticed that whenever pretty Italian girls would come by, somehow a table was immediately ready. LOL He told me 5 more minutes, despite the multiple empty tables. I waited the 5 minutes and finally walked in and decided that after waiting so long and there really were multiple empty tables I would seat myself. The food we ordered was excellent and truly lived up to the reputation but one other piece left a bad taste in my mouth. My one year old daughter was eating and as most toddlers do, she was dropping food on the floor. I’m pretty consistent about doing my best to clean up after her, but as she was eating, another waitress angrily screamed out about all the droppings on the floor. I immediately stood to clean it up and she was embarrassed because she didn’t think I spoke or understood Italian.. but the point is that it was quite rude. Bottom line, great food but not worth the grief!
