Since our 1st dinner here in September 2019, we have looked forward to returning to Osteria Del Teatro. What a happy surprise to find out that a wine tasting and dinner was scheduled on the night I had reserved and at a reasonable cost of 50 euros each. The dinner with wine pairings was lovely. We were only in Cortona for three days, but we made sure to return for a leisurely lunch. I enjoyed the risotto with fresh figs and gorgonzola and a very nice glass of cabernet. My husband chose the ravioli . and we shared the stuffed zucchini flowers and an insalata mista, The ambiance was perfect with us seated at our favorite table in the cozy corner. Everything was excellent with attentive service on both occasions by Signora Ylenia, Signor Alessio, Signor Niki, Signor Eurico, Signor Billy ,and Signora Kristy. We send our compliments to the owner Chef Signor Emiliano . We are looking forward to returning in 2022 . Grazie mille, Peggy & George. PS And an extra grazie mille to Niki who not only was very attentive, he thoughtfully helped me with the names of all the staff.

Dinner at the Osteria del Teatro signalled our final goodbye to Cortona - and what a great evening it was. In this charming restaurant, everything was perfect for our finale. A duck and wild fennel pasta for me and zucchini flowers for my wife began our culinary adventure. These primi platti were followed by a beautiful salt cod with citrus topping and celery paste for my wife and for me the best rabbit that I can remember. An insalata mista and oven roasted potatoes were perfect companions, and a fine bottle of local Cortona red wine, wisely suggested by our server, complimented our chosen dishes. Dessert too was special - crostatina di ricotta and coppa del nonno - rounded out a wonderful evening. We highly recommend Osteria del Teatro for the quality of its offerings and the excellence of its service. Perfetto!

We were wandering around and stopped to take pictures of all the flowers and decorations on the front steps and patio. Then we decided to have lunch there. There's a varied menu with all kinds of good things; plus, all possible allergens are thoughtfully listed -- something I rarely see on menus. We were so impressed with the combinations on the dishes that we asked for a copy of the menu, and the waitress kindly gave us one. We did not go inside, but we did see a number of people going up the street a bit for the patio seating.

A group of us spent a week in Cortona and tried different restaurants every evening. We expected a special evening but most of the group left disappointed. It did not live up to our expectations. Unfortunately it was one of those upmarket venues where certain members of the staff look down on their customers. We chose a couple of bottles of wine but the pushy response was that we really should be ordering something else that was more expensive. It appeared we'd upset them as the wine did not appear and after a long wait we went to reception to enquire where it was. Then, after we'd already been told about that day's specials twice, when it came time to order, there was another attempt to get us to go with the specials. Following on from the wine, this was the second attempt to upsell. Two of us ordered the steak asking for it to be cooked "medium". The waiter then told us we should order "rare" and proposed to write this on the order. Had we not been in a group, two in our party would have walked out as they did not appreciate this condescending attitude. Despite the many other positive reviews, none of us would choose to return. There were better and more friendly alternatives in Cortona.

This restaurant was overly hyped as the "Must do" eatery in Cortona. When the food finally arrived and was re-heated, it WAS quite tasty. BUT.....it took more than 2 hours to receive our "piatti primi" (first main dish) and when it arrived, it was cold. Whether this just a bad night for the kitchen or the wait staff, I don't know. But we canceled plans for our second plate and dessert. After we expressed our exasperation, the staff (or management) gave us a complimentary flower and ricotta dish which was both delicious and hot, but the damage had been done. One word comes to mind: OVERRATED!

Superb lunch on the terrace of the Osteria del Teatro, enjoying the late summer weather. We shared a starter which included smoked beef and a potato tart sprinkled with this season's new olive oil. Followed by handmade Pici, and chocolate mascarpone dessert. The wine was a Cortona Syrah, Selverello, by Tenuta Montecchiesi. Fine dining at its best, wonderful food and friendly top-class service by a very knowledgeable waiter who advised the wine. A memory to treasure during the winter. Our favourite restaurant in Italy.

Beautiful restaurant in Cortona. We sat in an elegant room with A/C. Dinner was exceptional. Amazing selection of antipasto. Pasta was very fine - I had tartufo with mine and it was great. Tagliata was my main course and it was tender and beautifully cooked. My dessert was a very special take on tiramisu. Great service by professional courteous and attentive staff. The delightful owner keeps it all running smoothly. We accompanied this outstanding meal with a Syrah from Cortona recommended by the owner; it was perfect and mid-range in price. This was a gourmet experience and the tab was extremely reasonable for what we had. An unforgettable experience to treasure.

One of few places we went back to a second time during our two weeks in Cortona. The staff is wonderfully friendly. The seating area up the block is uncomfortably warm under the tent and with hardly any breeze, but their actual balcony is a delight if you can get a table there (only tables for 2). The antique doll decor inside is just plain weird. The food was quite good. My real issue, and it's not an insignificant one, is the cover charge. I know this is standard in Italy, I get it. However, I thought it was per party. However, on our 2nd visit, I looked at the check more closely (someone else in my party had paid the bill the first time) and saw that the cover charge was not only outrageous–higher than at many other places–but it had been applied PER PERSON. I didn't want to make an issue out of it because I'd already paid, that's on me for not checking before, but I left feeling like they had tricked me and that did sour my experience. If you eat here, make sure you're clear up front about whether the cover charge is per person or party, and then double check your bill!

We came with our friend. We were so happy to be able to return to taste some of the delicious food prepared by The Chef. The pici are hand made and the ragu’ tastes like heaven. A must try is the scrigno di chianina: even for someone like me who usually does not eat rare cooked meat, the scrigno is a delicacy: the meat is cooked rare and then cut in minute little cubes that then marinate with oil and aromatic herbs. The meat is so tender that it melts in the mouth. It is served with crunchy vegetables, as a starter. A must try, it is delicious. Service is impeccable and the owners are friendly and very attentive towards the guests. We look forward to our next trip in the region to be able to eat there again.

Beautiful place located in the center of Cortona. Offe local cuisine, with fresh produce and handmade pasta. Really good potato dumplings, along with pici and stuffed tortelloni. Quality even the cut, melted in the mouth. The staff was friendly and professional, accompanied by a room furnished to make the time spent here more suggestive. The quality-price ratio is more than fair, and the menu certainly offers plenty of choice, while remaining tied to the traditional cuisine of the territory.

Today, April 25th, having left Veneto, heading south, with a red flag day on the motorway, the stop in this place was more than providential. Although the arrival took place almost at the same time as the closing, we were welcomed in a sublime way, served with unprecedented promptness and we appreciated the extraordinary quality of the dishes offered with an incredible choice of wines designed to satisfy even the most demanding and affordable. ! Truly recommended wholeheartedly also for the excellent location!

Absolutely horrible experience. Do not waste your time here. We ordered wine and an appetizer; the appetizer was not delivered. After we received the primi piatti (first course) we realized no one was checking on us anymore, and we never got our appetizer. When we asked about this, they told us we had never placed the order. They eventually brought it with the secondi piatti (second course), but did not follow up with us for anything. They never asked if we needed more water, wine, or checked back on us. All the staff were avoiding eye contact with us. We had to flag them down to order more wine. We were feeling so uncomfortable with how they were treating us that we wanted to leave. Even still we could not get someone to bring us the check. Finally we asked the staff if we did anything to offend them, and everyone said no. Will not recommend or be back.

The service failed hospitality in both efficiency and friendliness. As a seasoned traveler we have had wonderful experiences with wait staff and quality of food. This was not that! It failed both with food and staff that was lackluster and surly. I never want to be made to feel I am intruding when I am paying for the meal. The kitchen has obviously given up.

People in and around Cortona recommend this Osteria.Sadly the staff really could not have performed more poorly in regard to either the service or fare quality. My stuffed squash blossoms were cool and soggy bland and swimming in a bitter sauce of herbs. The fillet with foie gras cold and not seasoned. I did have some nice roasted rosemary potatoes and carbonara on the side. The wine recommendation was also nice. Of the eight persons served in our party, none left pleased or satisfied. I find it difficult to believe that this establishment has received a Michelin Star. Maybe they had an off night; but I cannot give any other than a poor but deserved review.

On the subject of dinners and dinners, I can't help but tell you about a particular place where I had the pleasure of having dinner during my trip to Tuscany. The Osteria del Teatro in Cortona is both hospitality and kindness, but above all typical cuisine of the region revisited with a pinch of originality. Emiliano Rossi, owner and chef, is very skilled at mixing seasonal Tuscan flavors by offering dishes in his menus that smell of truffles and mushrooms in a truly unique place. The Osteria is a 16th century building which once housed the house of the municipal guards (and in fact on the central door inside the restaurant there is the coat of arms of the city of Cortona) completely renovated but which has retained its original beauty. The three rooms are very beautiful and different from each other, one is frescoed and with vaulted arches and has an ancient master fireplace. Everywhere in the restaurant, which is located in the heart of the historic center, there are photos of artists, Italian actors and Hollywood stars and historical posters of many Italian theaters that belong to a private family collection. What can I say... try it and tell me!
