Absolutely loved this place, we were there for Saturday evening dinner and would have gone back the following day but unfortunately closed Sunday and Monday lunch. We had the tasting menu and a wonderful bottle of wine. Hosts were super kind and nice and food...was exquisite, in a modern but unpretentious way.More

Visited on our last night in Siracusa.... food and service was excellent... shame it took so long to find it - highly recommended.

Absolutely love this place! Every time I come to Siracusa, I go dinning at least 2-3 times to Macalle! Amazing service and absolutely incredible food. A must visit if you come to Siracusa!

So good. We enjoyed the fantastic food and the the good service. The cook himself took time to explain food and wine. Number one of the restaurants in Sicily.

When we travel we always look for good restaurants and I don’t like to give low rating specially if the people are nice. But this one was too pricey for very small portion and not so special. One pasta with pesto (starter size like 5...units of paccheri) costed around 14 euros. My plate with a mix of seafod was tasting not so good unfortunately. We liked the octopus and the chicken. The olive oil for the bread is also good. We left the restaurant smelling food and this is one thing that I don’t expect in an expensive restaurant. The place is cozy. We have just came from Savoca and had our best food, wine, juice and desert ever! Gilsonero restaurant, amazing all 6 plates we ordered.More

A bit pricey, but very worth it. We headed there after we discovered our first choice was closed either for renovation or for winter (yes, that happens a lot in Italy). Macallè was close to where we were staying and had good reviews, so why...not? We weren’t disappointed. Nice food, very tasty, very correctly done.More

Since we speak Italian, we tend to favor authentic restaurants that cater to locals. Hearing mostly English and scanning the translated menu at Macalle, we wondered if we had stumbled upon a tourist trap. But we weren't disappointed. The red-wine infused broccoli starter, fork-tender stuffed...squid and perfectly-grilled swordfish were tasty and beautifully presented. Sometimes, it's good to be wrong.More

We ate at Macalle twice during our last stay in Italy and it was everything you want from a good friendly unpretentious restaurant . The owner makes you feel at home and his ( actually his wife's ) creative food was as good as we...found in Sicily , no hesitation whatsoever to recommend to fellow travellersMore

In a country and indeed a city where it is almost impossible to have anything less than a terrific meal, Chef Maurizio Moceo's Macalle' is must visit. What you will not find here are traditional dishes--but rather clever takes on them using ingredients that Murizio...gathers each day on his walk through the Ortigyia food market. We accompanied him one day to the stalls of particular vendors--all of whom greeted him by name and got some insight into how he selects best and freshest --whether it was eggplant for his version of Pasta Norma, Octopus for a braised and grilled appetizer that I could have cheerfully consumed as a main dish, and just about everything else save those items he sources from other parts of Sicily. Macalle' is a family affair--both Maurizio's son who manages the front and is a knowledgeable wine steward, and his lovely wife and sous chef keep the dishes coming with flair and never haste. Maurizio owned and managed a restaurant mini empire at one point but decided that he could not offer the kind of food and experience he wanted working with surrogates. We were glad he did because this was memorable dining. Savoring the tastes and enjoying the showmanship are all part of the experience and there is plenty of both. If you are a fan of 1950's era music with a smattering of blues, jazz and Sinatra you'll feel at home in the ambience of this bistro and enjoy the beautifully curated art that gives life to room. There are a few better known places in town but none that in our view can match this gem.More

Maurizio the owner could not have been more helpful and pleasant. Food was fresh and local, with some different twists. He is proud of their food (his wife is the chef) and his enthusiasm in contagious. Eggplant meatballs were very good, different. Pacchetti alla Norma...were delicious. Excellent grilled swordfish. Gnocchi with mussels good, not great. Great wine recommendations and excellent local amaro after dinner. Great dinner and evening all around! Graze, Maurizio!!More
