We went to this restaurant on the recommendation of an experienced Sicily guide, and we were not disappointed. The food, the ambience and especially the welcome were fantastic! Delicious portions of very fresh ingredients that gave us a real sense of Sicilian gastronomy, sitting outside...on a quiet street. The proprietor welcomed us warmly and proceeded to guide us through his menu and especially to produce fabulous local wines, that we would never have known how to discover. The final Moscato lives on in our tastebuds!! Thank you!More

We visited as a large (20+) group and were welcomed by an attentive and knowledgeable staff that treated us to an excellent sea-inspired tasting menu with a delicately seasoned trio of crudo (raw fish), gnocchi and seared tuna. The chef’s enthusiasm for Sicilian food is...communicative!More

I hate writing this one. We visited this restaurant after careful research looking for the best food! We were seated, asked for bottled water, picked up our menus and had immediate concerns about a lack of options for my lactose intolerant date. We put 5...Euro on the table (for the water) and were getting up to go. The man waiting on us approached us in a rather aggressive manner and asked what was wrong. I explained the dairy issue and and FLICKED my menu telling me I was wrong and there was plenty of options. He walked away, we got up to leave. He demanded 12Euro to cover the water and settings! We offered him 10 and left - feeling like we dodged a bullet. I think if he had handled the situation differently we could have eaten a lovely meal there. But the chef never got the chance.More

My husband and I had a wonderful dinner for my birthday yesterday at Maccalè. We ended up choosing it after there was a mixup with another very popular restaurant we had reserved. We chose the fish and vegetable tasting menu of four courses. Each course...included a perfect blend of flavors, the freshest ingredients and beautiful plating. We had room for dessert, which was also wonderful. We were well cared for and allowed to take our time with each course. So glad we found this lovely restaurant!More

We tried the tasting menu. Each tasting was wonderful, with different subtle flavors. The staff were extremely attentive and friendly. The atmosphere on a relatively quiet street was lovely. Best meal in Sicily so far.

Everything was outstanding! The restaurant is on a quite street in Ortigia. The chef, Mauricio, was very friendly and helpful to us considering we don’t speak Italian:) The wine was magnificent, dinner was very original. Octopus appetizer was probably the best we have had in...Sicily. Perfect evening!More

The chef, Mauricio and the restaurant and food were all warm, authentic and truly Sicilian. We were fortunate enough to have booked a food tour, and Chef Mauricio was our guide - he took us through the market, where we taste tested our way through...a variety of local stands. The cheese, the meats, the seafood, the vegetables! Oh my- what a treat. The tour ended with lunch with the Chef at Macalle - and it was just icing on the top of the cake. We had wonderful Pasta Norma, swordfish sprinkled with curry, and lovely sides. Chef joined us to chat about Siciliy and was kind enough to set me straight on how to make tomato sauce. It was a perfect afternoon!More

Our hotel suggested this restaurant. Tables next to cars driving down the street. Extremely rude and aggressive young waiter. He shouldn't be serving customers as clearly he hates his job. Literally forced his choice of wine on us as too impatient/stressed to wait until we...had time to select our choice. Chat through the menu and wine choices like a normal restaurant? You must be joking! Had a quick meal and escaped back to our friendly hotel. Strange experience! All other hospitality venues more than lived up to the Sicilian hospitality ethos.More

Macalle was suggested to us by our hotel. Our dinner was delicious - one of the best during our visit to Siracusa. Service was charming - our young waiter and the chef could not have been more accommodating, patient, and clearly proud of their family's...restaurant and the quality of the food they prepare and serve. Rightfully so. What a treat. Highly recommend.More

The staff was rude and dismissive especially the young waiter with the tattoos . I asked for balsamic vinegar and I was told” we don’t serve this in Sicily, this is not Italy “ but when I insisted , I was serve a droplet in...a bowl. The food is very expensive and small portion compared to the other nearby restaurants. They charge a 4 euro service fee per person which is the norm but they added 2 extra fee and when we asked to remove it , he was rude and said “ Welll, does 8 euro make a difference !!” He had a bad attitude and should not be serving . He also charged us for one more Still water bottle than we used .which was another struggle to remove from the bill. It seems they are not the type of restaurants that appreciate North Americans business.More

This place was recommended to us during our recent stay. Highly overpriced compared to other similar restaurants or even better. Very small portions Young male server was very rude and should not be serving tourists. We left the restaurant with a sour taste. other restaurants...in the area were cheaper, better quality, larger portions and very good service. Would not recommend this place to anyone.More

We had an outstanding dinner at this neighborhood gem in Ortigia. Sat outdoors like most diners - it was a beautiful night. We ordered the degustazione which produced 4 courses & a dessert for only 60 euros apiece. The first course was raw - tuna...tartare and a delicious prawn and a 3d item which slips my mind. Course 2 was my favorite - delicate gnocchi pillows in a delicate brodo with clean and tender mussels and clams. A seared on the outside / raw on the inside tuna was the main, and dessert was a choice of tiramisu or a pistachio and ricotta combination that was terrific. An Etna bianco for 36 euros was a lovely accompaniment. Chef serves his own olive oil and waits every table himself. It was an outstanding meal!More

The service at this interesting restaurant was excellent and each dish we had was delicious. My starter of raw fish was stunning although at 28 Euros somewhat pricey we thought. The salad was a feast for the eyes as well as the palate with salad,...fruit & nut combinations. The pasta main & stuffed octopus were really good although quite small portions if you were very hungry. My tiramisu desert was disappointing but the whole experience was a positive one & out of 3 dinners in Ortigia definitely the best.More
