#170 of 1,250 Italian in Palermo
Travelers' Choice
Ballaro is an overlook on the soul of Sicily, a lively land and plenty of opportunities where you can create economy enhancing culture, images, smells, tastes and sounds. Osteria Ballaro contains these elements, a real market within the charming atmosphere of Palazzo Cattolica's stables. Our dishes value the simplicity as well as the wealth of Palermo and Sicily. We only use seasonal products, strictly at 0 km, starting from fish, to prepare recipes for every day menu. You can also combine the "street food" (from stigghiola to pani ca meusa, from pane cunzato to quarume), or a slow food platter of cheeses and cold cuts made in Sicily, with wines from our winecellar. We went here as recommended by our hotel concierge and had a lovely dinner - delicious food and great wine, but the service in particular requires a special mention. The waiters were very attentive, service was with a smile, and when they didn’t have any...English breakfast tea the waiter even went out to get some from their sister bar across the road. Very happy customers, thank you!More

Our last night in Palermo and we saved the best until last - this is just a fabulous restaurant. The setting is fantastic - homely, comfortable but in an old building. The food is very local and seemingly authentic. We loved everything we had -...it was just great. The waiting staff were excellent - attentive, professional and friendly. I can't recommend this place enough!More

We had the fish tasting menu and a bottle of wine. We did like the food very much, taste, texture, presentation was great. The only particularity was that every dish hand minced fish in it and we didn’t manage to find out, what kind of...fish. It was all fresh and tasty though. The wine we had was good, too. The service was attentive, friendly and simply professional. We were tired after a long day of sightseeing and the waiter and even the manager came to check on us and make sure we’re happy. The place has a lovely atmosphere and supports an romantic evening very much.More

Went here for dinner and the food was quite expensive for what you got. The octopus in arabiatta and deep fried seafood were extremely chewy and did not taste fresh. The only good thing was the extensive wine list. Many better options around.

Recommendation from our hotel hosts. Great choice of fish and wine. Enjoyed seafood and the street food selection. Waiter selected a super wine for us. Bit more expensive than some other restaurants but worth it

Very nice place with rather snotty waiters. Food is good but too expensive for what you get. Impressive wine list though . Tourists abound

We pre-booked a table here before travelling but then found that our B&B host recommended this as a great place to eat so we were delighted to be going. Situated in the back streets of central Palermo, this was easy to find. The restaurant is...set in a stone vaulted building - lovely decor and ambience. We received a very warm welcome and friendly service throughout. There was a great choice of food on the menu - it was hard to choose what to have. Our waiter was keen to stress that some things had a slightly unique interpretation of a traditional theme so there would be no surprises. The food was of a very high standard - clearly they use top quality ingredients to produce their food and the flavours and freshness shone through - the Nebrodi black pig was particularly delicious. Everything that we ate was absolutely delicious and beautifully presented and portions are very generous. Not cheap but you get what you pay for and this is good quality local food. Would highly recommend if you want an great experience of local food - we'll be back next time we visit.More

Of all the restaurants my friend Guido has taken me too -and I've hardly ever been to the same restaurant twice over a 20 year period-, this must be in the top 3. Its a great tasteful space, professional service, great food and amazing wines-...try the local red Castellucci Miano- its as smooth and as velvety as they come with a bouquet to match. My slices of black pig from the Nebrodi mountains were delicious. Grazie ancora GuidoMore
