Very unfriendly waitress! We left after a few minutes because she treated us very unfriendly. Enough other restaurants with nice waiters and good food nearby.

Pasta was amazingly delicious, best in the city but the croquettes were dry and came super late. Staff is nice but rather slow for our standards (the restaurant was empty when we came). Location is nice and prices are fair. We wanted to share our...food and the waitress split it on two plates without us telling her, that was super nice! Must check out!More

Disappointing. This restaurant is on a very hip street with lots of great places to eat out al fresco, first appearance looked good and we sat outside. The male waiter was very friendly but than we had a female waitress and she could not be...bothered with us at all, said no to everything including seeing a wine list as she said they did not have one, ridiculous because we could see them inside on the counter, very lazy customer service. We had meat balls and fish balls, told no again to what we wanted except the one that was twice the price on the menu. When the food came it was tasty but felt underwhelmed, ripped off and the female staff had a chip on her shoulder. Would not go back again.More

A guide from an awesome food and wine tour recommended we went down this street to try different bars and food rather than the main strip. Great idea if you follow the crowds. This place was not overly busy but had Italians in it so...we thought it must be good enough for locals it will be good enough for us. We should have listened to our gut and gone to the busier places…they are busy for a reason. Arrived and met by a lovely waiter who helped us with our broken Italian. He was friendly and recommended a wine. Great start we thought. Sadly down hill service wise from that point. His colleague was rude and gave us the impression that she could not be bothered to give us her time. We asked for the wine list (the place has 25wines plus on display and why we went in!!) She simply said “no” to our request. We thought it was on a QR code like the menu and she didn’t understand so we just accepted it. We later found the wine list inside when we went to pay. Couldn’t be bothered and made assumptions that we would not know anything?? Maybe not but such a shame. We ordered meatballs, after all the place is called meatballs isn’t it?!? Anyway, they were tasty but for what we got they were expensive. The fish in particular 20euro for one dish! Happy to pay normally but this felt like a rip off given what you could get on this street. Food nice enough and wine was ok but I would truly pass it by until they ramp up their service. If you are a local it did look like you get a different experience so it may just be a language thing…sadly we will never know as we won’t be going back.More

Our B & B manager recommended Polpetteria to us. With it being within easy walking distance and one of the places on the very unique Via Filomena, we were excited by the menu and concept of all kinds of things as meatballs. Speaking English, and...only having a bit of basic conversational and food-related Italian speaking ability, communication was a little tough. Nobody's fault, just a fact. The initial server we had (actually three different people waited on us) was a nice young guy. We talked wine, wanted a local red, and he showed us a Mt. Etna Rosso on which decided. When he brought it to the table it sat there in front of us. He didn't open it and he didn't provide any tool for us to uncork it. Hmmm. The menu offers 40-something different versions of "meatballs". But, for us what we ended up seeing once we received our order, was not a "ball", per se. They were more patties or other shapes that didn't match the visual we had for meatballs. Yes, they have them made of vegetable, pork, beef, fish, and combinations of all different things. We had one of the pork variations, one of the fish (why not try something different, right?) and another meat combination. We were kind of disappointed overall in those choices. The depth of flavor didn't match the description of ingredients making up those dishes. As we looked around, we saw really great looking plates being delivered to tables around us and our mouths were watering, but it was too late. Those tables had great looking pizza, pastas, "non-meatball" entrees from the menu and they all enthusiastically pounded away. We thought, well, had we known we would have done the same. But, the place is called Polpetteria! So we went with the meatball concept. As I said, we had several different people try to provide service. It was below average at best. From the wine being plopped on our table, to a second waiter coming to take our order after the the first guy already did, we had to start over with the order. We sat forever once we finished our man course hoping someone might want to offer dessert or coffee. We finally flagged someone down for that. My opinion is that this place is pretty solid if you know what to order. Again, my recommendation is to not be over influenced by the catchy name and go with what looks good to you. As for service, I know it's not easy for non-English speaking servers to do their job and I think some shy away and aren't comfortable, therefore, the service is below par.More

I left this place with mixed feelings: on the one hand, meatballs here are delicious, second best I tried (Stockholm's are still the first). On the other hand, it was perfectly clear that personal was hurrying me. Which was weird: it's a restaurant, not a...fast food. I'm not sure why was I so special comparing to other visitors: my behaviour and look was normal. The only difference was that I'm a tourist. Also a waiter accidentally (or not) kicked me when he was passing through to the next table, but even didn't say he's sorry. Either it was xenophobia or just rude attitude it was inappropriate and totally spoiled the impression. Also they haven't brought me the menu with drinks, even after I asked two times. And for restaurant were stuff allows themselves such a behaviour they have a terrible and dirty toilet. They'd better clean it instead of being rude to customers.More

The food was nice. Al dent pasta that tasted great and a good pizza. But the service was slow. The price was ok, but the price of the beer a little too high. And why the added cover charge?

We took two dishes of polpette, one with fish and one with meat. The fish one was ok, a bit dry but ok. The meat one was very juicy but salty. Very delayed service, they have maybe forgotten our order. It took maybe one hour...at least between the first and second course…. Overall it is nice place and good food.More

Had dinner here - the ‘meatballs’ were basically hamburgers - food was OK, service a bit unfriendly and a tad expensive for what I had.

Located in a small street with just pedestrians. Many nice restaurants. Both the caprese (starter) and pizza’s where really enjoyable. Didn’t like the americano, but that seems to be similar all around so might be just me.

Lovely little spot situated on a great street. The area the restaurant is on is pedestrianized so you can sit out and have a quiet conversation without the roar of traffic. We opted for a selection of dishes, a couple of glasses of wine and...a couple of beers. The meal was well priced, I’d recommend it.More

The pizzabread and the waiter's wine suggestion (5 €/glass) was good. As starter we tried the speciality of the place, "vegetarian meetballs" (they are vegetarian). They were warm outside and cold, nearly raw, inside. The tomato sauce coming with it was also cold. Maybe this...is how it has to be, but we didn't like it that much. By mistake I ordered a plain pizza with raw toppings. I asked the waitress to heat it, so that the tuna and cherry tomatoes would be warm and the mozarella cheese melted. She said then it wouldn't be the pizza I ordered, but brought it back to the kitchen. In this moment the waiter who had taken our order came to our table and said: You have to pay this pizza because this is what you ordered! We said, of cause we pay, we just want the toppings to be heated. He answered that if we receive what we order, we cannot change our mind and order something else. He came back with the menue and showed me the descripion and that I have it ordered like this. The waitress, who was nice, brought the heated pizza and it was okay for me. However, when we wanted to order a second glass of wine, the waiter refused to serve us and talked to a third waitress, so she came to take our wine order. While the first reaction concerning the cold toppings was just very unprofessional, the refusal to serve us was rude. We have never experienced such a behavior and it was a disappointing end of our 3 weeks trip through Sicily with friendly people and great restaurants.More

I came here on my first night in Catania....recommended by the hotel. I had a caprese (massive amount of mozzarella and huge tomatoes) then one of the many meatball options. The food was very good indeed.

We visited Polpetteria, as the food we had seen walking by previously had looked very appetising. We both had the Burrata starter and it was absolutely perfect. The jam to go with it was delicious. Two very tasty pizzas and a bottle of top quality...red wine later, we left very happy. Great atmosphere, great food, friendly service.More
