Excellent food, but the wait between courses may be long

I'd suggest you go early to De Fiore, about 7:15 or 7:30 p.m., before it gets crowded. Your chances of getting your meal without a long wait will improve. On most nights, it seems, there's only chef Rosanna in the kitchen and her nephew Massimo waiting tables. (Both are lovely people and excellent... read more

We saw the trattoria recommended in a popular guidebook to Sicily. It was highly praised and we went prepared to endure the slow service. We were disappointed to find that the food was mediocre by comparison to other places, but was at least reasonably priced. The pasta was tasty, but the sauces were lacking definition and were generally unremarkable. We... More

Arrived early hoping that the service issues would not affect early dining when only a few diners in the restaurant. Not to be! Mamma Rosanna works to her own beat and that precludes the needs and wants of her customers. It appears she only heads into the kitchen when there is some sort of critical mass ito numbers of diners.... More

Many others have commented on how slow the service is here; Lonely Planet describes it as "excruciatingly slow" and that is pretty accurate. Be prepared to step back in time. The restaurant inside is a cross between a cave and somebody s front room. Not many tables and when we went on a Friday lunch we were the first in.... More

A warm, authentic atmosphere and delicious food. Everything is absolutely fresh here, and all the ingredients are perfectly balanced. The Pasta alla Norma was a real gastronomic experience. It is true that waiting is far beyond the average, but this too somehow becomes part of the general atmosphere. Highly recommended.

If you want fast food, go next door; if you want slow, freshly cooked dining in what feels like someone's front room, then De Fiore is perfect. Mamma Rosanna is a caricature of an Italian 'chef de patron': warm, embracing (literally) in the restaurant; a firebrand in the kitchen, and with the words to go with it. I could not... More

After reading lonely planet rave review we made it to trattoria de del diode along with an entire restaurant full of other tourists. The cooking felt authentic but wasn't in any way exceptional. We had the pasta al Norma, antipasti, sardines, anchovies and a fennel salad. Most disappointing was the sardine dish - sardines stuffed with cheeses and olives -... More

We arrived at 9.30 in the evening and it took the waiter 45(!)min to bring us our water and whine! We left the place at 11.45 and had 2 primi piatti (pasta) and 2 secondi (meat). We waited over an hour to get our first dish... VERY VERY slow food - not to be recommended! The food was good but... More

Food was quite tasty, but don't go there if you're really hungry! It took us two hours to go through starter (sharer for 2) and two main courses (1 each). Meals were worth waiting but not for that long, prices were decent, service very slow but friendly.

Amazing food, cooked by Mamma Rosanna herself, it's a long wait for the food (since she cooks each dish herself from scratch) but well worth it and great prices (our bill was less than 40euros for two people, two courses, wine wand water!)…would definitely recommend!
