On our first day in Catania we stumbled across this place during market hours. A fantastic experience. We were served the freshest food and fish by a delightful waiter who advised us on the best dishes in the menu and thoroughly looked after us during the meal. The caponata was the best we had in the whole 2 weeks. Whilst... More

First night in Catania and we lucked into a table around 9pm. Sis thought this was the best fish she had the whole visit to Sicily . Kids had pasta and one still rated this bolognese as his top 3. On the sight where whole swordfish and other seafoods were for sale in the morning. Inhale and the aromas of... More

Everything we ate was over the top fresh. The chef was a woman who did this job for years and she was very friendly. The service was good but the food was bot special. It lacked a chef's touch. The only reason everything tasted good was because of how fresh the fish was.

This is a simple trattoria with crowded tables immersed in the noise and the smells of the Pescheria. It has a small menu completely dominated by fish but even so with a good variety. All the fish is very fresh and high quality and it is served to the table immediately on cooking. Cooking techniques are simple but the standard... More

Super friendly welcome, the menu is great, very delicious shrimps (the shrimp is a must), great cook by the mother, best services given by the waiter.

We had lunch in the middle of Catania's fish market. For starters we had marinated shrimp and also fried sardines which were on the house. For main course we had sword fish steak and grilled fish. Both were excellent. we enjoyed very much.

It is in the fish market. I recommend seafood salad, sautè di cozze e vongole (mussels) and sardines. It is so fresh, quick and budget where you can experience real Catania

I had only one dish at La Paglia, an octopus salad that was a bit on the chewy side, so I can't properly comment on the food served there. (I also had a cassata for dessert that was brought in from the wonderful Caffe del Duomo.) But I can tell you that this is a great place for lunch because... More

After visiting fish market, we decided to have our lunch in a restaurant nearby. La Paglia was the perfect place to have lunch as all the seafood was so fresh. The staff was so friendly, although they don't speak English well, we had no problem to choose our dishes, communicated both in English and Italian. I strongly recommend you to... More

It was a Saturday lunchtime and the fish market was scrubbing down to a close. This trattoria has tables alongside fish market stalls as well as inside but we thought watching the last of the market trade might be entertaining. The menu was pretty limited but service was swift. Quality: train station. Prices: mid-restaurant! Overall an easily forgettable experience.
