Found this on a Google search and so sought it out. It's a bit tucked away, but still central. What a gem! The service was fantastic, the garden area is just lovely. As for the food .... Bring your best appetite! We ordered two antipasti...and two mains. The portions were very generous, but wow the flavours. We had the seafood bruschetta and the caponata and it was a lot of food, one would have been more than enough for two people! The chef's fillet and mixed fish were also excellent. We had to come because of a tip from Bourdain's tv show... The highlight however was the food itself. Probably the best Sicilian restaurant I have ever dined at! We had Carpaccio di spigola, Linguine allo scoglio, Risotto gambero pazzo al tartufo, Pepata di cozze...and it was the best ever. Service was flawless and the decor is relaxing. We tried the Trip Advisor #1 two days later and it was quite a bit of a disappointment in comparison. I think the ratings should be flip-flopped. Came back to Gambero Pazzo a few days later. I have experienced the weirdest service ever. I asked about whether I could order the black noodles as someone posted, the waiter only said "No", I even ask if they dont have it today and he just said "No", no explanation. I ordered mussels, the...taste is good, objectively, but as appetizer it is huge, and I was waiting for my spaghetti and they were waiting for me to finish the whole plate (as I asked after quite a while). I have never experienced that much eye contact with waiters until that dinner... To compare it fairly, I have entered later a restaurant randomly on street, after I ordering my food, the waiter asked me directly how I want them to serve the dish order.More

I went out to dinner by myself and chose this restaurant based on the reviews. I chose oysters for starters, they were fresh and tasty. For second I ate pasta with mussels and it was so packed with mussels I almost couldn’t finish it! Amazing...price for the quality, and terrace is just lovely!More

I was here in 2018 and then back here in 2022. I liked the location and the mood of this place. The food is very good for the price, especially considering the size of the dishes you'll get... I suggest not eating for at least...20 hours before to pop here! It's not the most refined modern seafood cuisine you can find in Catania, but again this a place with pop prices. The cuisine style here is closer to tradition. Still, the quality it's certainly above the average in this price range. The service is very good. I was in Catania for a week and to be honest until the last day I was slightly disappointed with the food I ate. Last evening, I went to Il Gambero Pazzo, and it satisfied all my eating needs! Beautiful garden, super tasty fish&sea food,...very reasonable prices. I couldn't recommend it more.More

Strike #1: Their exterior in an alley, on the second floor, of a seemingly poorly maintained building. They have no street frontage, nor signage. Strike #2: We arrived approximately 8:00pm on a Friday night. There was only one other table with customers. (Not a good...sign, if is a popular restaurant.) Strike #3: We were roughly greeted. They asked if we had a reservation. Since we did not, they could only sest us by the front door. When the menus came, there were limited options, with seemingly "tourist pricing". With everything considered, we decided best to leave, within minutes of receiving their menu, and of course before we ordered. PS So I could post a view of their tacky interior, I took a picture thru their only window (which is a cutout of their interior wall, separating their door entrance and restaurant area).
