This is obviously a landmark place in Venice and we love to sit there and enjoy the view of Piazza San Marco but the waiters behave like they are too good to serve those tourists! Given the price tag and the usual warmth of the Italian people, this is very annoying.

One must visit the oldest cafe in Venice, the setting is impressive whilst the sweets are amazing. The prices are excessively high but then you are in Venice in Piazza San Marco and in the oldest Cafe....

Caffè Florian in business for 400+ years. To have a cup of coffee and listen to the music sitting in the square is gonna set you back 16 euros. The experience of it, priceless.

This caffe gives you a true feeling that you are in Venice, they have an orchestra playing and the music is really nice. You do have to pay for the music it is included in your final bill, around 6 euros per person just for sitting, we ordered light things such as one mimosa one ice cream and a beer... More

Despite very expensive prices (and an extra charge of 6€ per person to listen to the orchestra), Caffe Florian stays one of the best places to enjoy Piazza San Marco. The atmosphere is really nice as well as the delicious drinks and ice creams.

A great cafe in piazza San Marco. A lot of history as it was established in 1720. The food and drinks are very good (a bit overpriced) but you're paying for the atmosphere. The inside is lovely but there's live music and better people watching outside but definitely check out both in and out. The servers were also very good... More

Caffe Florian is an historical spot in Venice. The place is very famous and the antique decoration is superb. When you sit there, you may think you are still a 18 th or 19 th century's traveller. In fact you succeed many celebrities who were there before you and nothing or almost nothing seems to have changed ! Service is attentive... More

We stopped here for a couple of hours when visiting San Marco in Venice. The location is great, the music is amazing and I would recommend no one misses this experience. However make sure you bring some money with you as it quickly adds up. The four drinks and snacks in my picture cost me around 90 euros including a... More

I had seen other reviews on trip advisor and after much deliberation we visited for lunch/snacks. We tried sandwiches, ice cream sundaes, bottled water and coffees. Couldn't fault any of the food and it did feel 'special' as was delivered on a silver tray, embroidered napkins etc. Service was a little slow but once we had ordered the food arrived... More

Staying in San Marco

Neighborhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
