Our hotel recommended this restaurant and told it was a little more expensive than some but one of the oldest in Venice. The service was outstanding and the pastas are made in house. It was delicious as were the oysters. For desert we had tiramisu and it was wonderful. Lively ambience, many different people. They toss the pasta near your... More

Restaurant was recommended by hotel concierge and we went because it was a short walk from hotel. Wish we had checked the trip advisor reviews first. Old unappealing atmosphere, the most uncomfortable seats ever (legs did not fit under the table so we needed to sit sideways), inattentive service, food was fine without being special. Relatively expensive for the quality... More

This is the kind of place they warn you about in guide books. Sadly it was our hotel that recommend(shame JW Marriot). Expect to pay a "cover charge 5e" on top of already over priced menu as well as 12% service. Food ok, but the city is full of a better dinning experience. You can do better, without much effort... Yes, that's right. As if dinner in Venice were in need of further allure, dinner in the Orient Express Room at Ristorante Do Forni conjures up memories of elegant dining car repasts aboard the legendary train. Or, if you are more trattoria minded, a table can be reserved in the courtyard room to simulate the feel of an al fresco... More

The driver who picked us up from the airport recommended this restaurant to us when we first arrived, and the concierge at Gritti Palace set us up for dinner on our final night in Venice. We were treated like special guests (perhaps the doing of the concierge?) the the most attentive (but not intrusive) service we had anywhere in Venice.... More

Do Forni is supremely elegant, steered by Eligio Pates, revered in Venice, whose kitchen is one of the world’s best and superb wine collection runs into millions. It’s an enchanted place, with alcoves, hidden spaces, serenading Peruvian musicians, and impeccable service. I relished my baked sea bass with potatoes, cherry tomatoes and black olives, not to mention the speciality soft... More

This restaurant was recommended to us by the person who took us by water taxi from the train station to our hotel (Ruzzini Palace). It was a five minute walk. When we arrived, we were pleasantly surprised by the gentleman who met us at the door. Unknown to us, our taxi guide had called ahead and the owner smiled and... More

The restaurant " Do Forni " was founded in 1973 and is managing with passion by Mr.Eligio Paties.

" Do Forni " is distributed in two adjacent rooms: a rustic elegant room setting with the imagery of the ancient Venetian restaurant and the other one called Orient Express, whose luxurious furnishings reproduce accurately the setting and the soul of the famous wagon train that connects Venice to Istanbul and Paris.

The restaurant features traditional Venetian cuisine, mainly seafood, which offers fish and shellfish of the Adriatic according to recipes handed down by the Venice of the past centuries and embellished with seasonal vegetables and delicate sauces; but also the restaurant is known for a refined interpretation of the Venetian and Italian cooking that mixes the use of meats and local vegetables with the influence of international gastronomy.

Very large and qualified is also the restaurant's wine cellar, that offers the best labels from all the Italian regions, the most prestigious French wines and champagnes as well as a wide selection of international products.

Staying in San Marco

Neighborhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
