Restaurant was recommended by our hotel and we loved it! We were a little concerned because our table was by the kitchen, but no need to worry! It was a fun place, and the food was delicious. We started with a meat and cheese platter. Had a bottle of chianti. Both were delicious. Our 1st courses included eggplant parmigiana and... More

This restaurant was recommended by our hotel. The setting is lovely and the staff are very welcoming and helpful. Our waiter was very knowledgeable with both the food and wine. We tried the antipasti meat board; eel starter and also oyster which everyone thoroughly enjoyed, followed by the Duck and Turbot dishes for main. We all shared the cheese board... More

This is a great place for a meal or drink. I had cuttlefish in a sepia sauce, which was tender, tasty and looked spectacular. Great selection of wines by the glass, with bottles left for you to help yourself then charged by what you drink. Atmosphere and service both great.

Be careful in Venice, so many restaurants serve mediocre food for tourist dollars. And yet there is so much amazingly good food also...but how to know how to choose if you're new in town? Here's a hint... if a restaurant's menu is translated into four or more languages, for example, it probably doesn't change seasonally like a good restaurant should;... More

We had actually planned on eating elsewhere but it had no availability, so we walked to this spot which was recommended by our Free Walking Tour guide. We are so glad we did! They had great wine selections and both of our meals were delicious. My husband had the braised duck and I had the lasagna primavera. This place also... More

We came in for a late dinner and a table for four. To our surprise we ended up having six. We were going to squeeze in and other server started yelling at us "YOU SAID FOUR WE HAVE NO ROOM FOR SIX!" Instead of being happy to have an opportunity to create more business we immediately left. We walked into... More

Worst service I've ever received in a restaurant. We got yelled for being 2 more than the reservation was told, even though there were bigger tables available. AVOID AT ALL COST.

We went here on the basis of a 'Rough Guide' recommendation when we were trying to find somewhere else. It was wonderful. Wonderful wine selection. Food available so different from standard Venecian fare. I had wonderful Guinea fowl and partner had lamb shanks. Both excellent, would definitely go back next time in Venice.

In a friendly atmosphere with good wines, you will enjoy the "spaghetti alle vongole", the "carpaccio" generously served. The waiter also gave very good advice for the meals and the wine. Exceptional moments in a very very touristic city.

Staying in Castello

Neighborhood Profile
Castello
Castello is the largest of the six sestieri (districts), and the only one not facing onto the Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime neighborhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a strong artsy current to the Arsenale area. Via Garibaldi in Castello, with its shops and bars, has one of Venice's rare straight and wide boulevards. When a large ship turns around the Lido to enter the Giudecca Canal, the startling sight creates an illusion that it will run aground right on Via Garibaldi! Families treasure Giardini near the island's tip, green with rare trees and grass, and Riva degli Schiavoni is a popular spot for Venetians to take a stroll to watch the sunset.
