Needing a break from the summer crowds on the San Marco square, we headed into the maze of small streets turning away from the crowds of people. If we saw people, we turned the opposite direction. Hungry for lunch following a 4 hour walking tour, and needing an air conditioned place with a washroom, we saw this little gem on... More

This place is in a fabulous spot just over a river bridge. Apart from that it has nothing to offer. My wife had a pizza. If you have ever had a frozen mini pizza then you know what this was like, tiny and tasteless. My pasta was oily. The table next door had dishes which all looked the same grim... More

We visited Anima Bella some 8 years ago. We were back in Venice for a long weekend so decided to try and find it again for dinner. Don't ask me how to find it cos Venice is Venice. It's not far from St. Marks Square. There. A movie set could not equal the restaurants setting. It's a little restaurant beside... More

Stodgy pasta, too salty and not at all nice. I agree with many others whilst this is away from the glitz you be better going to the bakery/coffee shop another 20m down the lane. V V disappointing.

A very tiny Italian restaurant we found walking around Venice. We had a perfect light lunch. We shared a seafood antipasto, a house salad and a small pizza It was very good and of course a bottle of wine We enjoyed it very much.

After walking for ages and dismissing restaurants for being too touristy we decided to have a quick pasta here. What a mistake! Very limited menu: no problem could be good. No. Very poor. Wine very poor and expensive. Gives restaurants and Venice a bad name. Do not go.

Spare your time and money, don't eat here!!! This place is not a restaurant but a bar with a microwave used to warm up all the food because there is no kitchen. The food is terrible and the prices are outrageous! This place should not be named "Restaurant". Is is a total disgrace in Italy to sell that kind of food.... More

Was recommended by the hotel we were staying at. One person running the whole show. Menu very simple but mostly in Italy simple is better. However were we wrong. Reheated food (if you could call it that) an age to be served and a bill of almost 100 euro. Stay away. In fact Macdonalds would have been better.

I've had dinner at this place twice. The first time was back in 2011, when it was run by the beautiful but really unpleasant lady previous reviews mention. It was packed back then. I went back very recently, in March 2016. It is now run by a very pleasant and polite guy, but not many people seem to be going... More

Staying in San Marco

Neighborhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
