Welcome is very nice and warm. The food is very fresh and make with a passion you not see very often in a tourist place as Venice. Many special fish courses and fantastic meat. Wine card is big with wine from all of Italy.

I love love pasta but I am really picky with Italian food. If the pasta is not aldente aldente the flavor won't do much for me even if it's good. I found this place because I was walking around looking for a place to have dinner. It was my first night in Venice so I really didn't do much research... More

We decided on LaCaravella since it was close to hotel. The food was acceptable. Our grandson got steak and enjoyed it. The octopus salad was boiled not grilled. The salad was crisp & fresh.

Restaurant with a long history - about 100 years, and does its best to stand up to its reputation. Go for fish! Both we ordered were superb: turbot and sea bream baked in foil. Nice ambience too - to dine in a traditional inner court of a venetian house. The only thing that somewhat downed the impression was the waiter's... More

A phenomenal venue, gorgeous outdoor seating in a garden setting. The food is terrific and they even bring a plate of cookies for dessert at the end of your meal. The fish was exceptionally cooked and everything we ate was delicious. The only thing I did not love was the veal carpaccio, but I think that is because veal has... More

I was here with friends for dinner and it was a very pleasant surprise. Quite frankly, I have had several so-so experiences in Venice, but this restaurant I found really pleasant. The food was cooked very nicely and of high quality. The surroundings (we sat in the courtyard) are beautiful and even the wait service was pleasant and friendly. And... More

We enjoyed our last night in Venice dining here. The atmosphere in the tucked away courtyard is lovely and far removed from the crowds. The staff were all friendly and attentive and our meals were fabulous. Great wine list too!

Probably the best meal we had in Venice. Beautiful courtyard, very romantic. Great, discrete service. Food was good - the desserts are really worth it. The price is fair for what you get.

Description
La Caravella restaurant in Venice can be discovered immediately behind the newly-restored La Fenice theatre, just a few paces from the Piazza San Marco. Stepping inside, you will feel as if you have entered an antique sailing ship, with dark wood paneling, capstans and ropes and leaded windows. In summer, you may not step inside at all as La Caravella moves into a flower-filled courtyard complete with original wells, or the lighter courtyard dining room with typical Venetian ambience. The menu is typically Venetian too, with dishes like classic saor, marinated sardines with onions, pine kernels and raisins, fish soup, or oven orast turbot with potatoes and olives. In addition, the chef uses fresh seasonal ingredients to create trendier fare. The excellent wine list features both historical wine producers and smaller boutique vintners. Planning a party? La Caravella welcomes wedding receptions, private dinners, banquets, corporate entertaining, even coffee breaks. The garden seats up to 65 and one of the dining rooms up to 75.

Staying in San Marco

Neighborhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
