We were in Venice to celebrate our wedding anniversary and this was the last restaurant we visited before we returned. All we can say is PERFECT, the service was amazing. The food was outstanding, we had a three course meal and the food was cooked to perfection. We would definitely return if we were in Venice again.

We booked the chef's tasting menu and wine pairing experience ahead of time for our anniversary dinner. The tasting menu is four courses and has two options for each course, a fish orientated option and a 'red meat' orientated option, in my case it was; veal carpaccio, duck bolognese and a steak fillet, followed by dessert. Upon arrival we were... More

We planned a more formal meal for our last evening in Venice. We had originally booked something with no shelter by the water. The sky had opened up earlier that afternoon. We defaulted to the restaurant affiliated with our hotel. You could eat outside but there were contingency locations. As it turned out we had perfect weather and ate under... More

Definitely not worth it. Food is below average and not enough waiters for occupied tables- not necessarily their fault, understaffed. They solely rely on their name and do not make an effort. Lighting is really bad at night (light pointing directly at table as per interrogation). We ordered a soufflé before dinner as suggested and had to wait after dinner... More

We passed by on the way to St.Marco square. We were thirsty and looking for some refreshments. We came and sit in the bar. Barista was working very professionaly and we liked to stay here longer than one dink - to enjoy fantastic cocotailds and nice interior.

This was one of the nicest dinners we had in our 6-day visit. Atmosphere is fun and not rushed, menu choices are wide, and all the food is excellent. A small accident in clearing plates resulted in our check being discounted, which was certainly not necessary but shows how dedicated the staff is to the experience. The seafood was excellent.

This is an amazing restaurant in the heart of Venice. It is situated in a beautiful courtyard and when it gets dark it is very romantic. The service is excellent they do not hurry you. The food was delicious highly recommended, in between courses they tempt you with samples. However it is expensive but in our opinion worth it!

We had a great lunch at La Caravella. The food was lovely (particularly tiramisu and Amaretto soufflé), staff attentive and friendly, which made a leisurely lunch in sunshine really enjoyable. Pretty sure that the restaurant looks even more romantic in the evenings. Will be going there again (already booked).

Wonderful food, confident and assured staff - fantastic old school dining experience without taking itself too seriously. Would definitely return (we almost did even on our short 4 day stay). The scampi on fried vegetables with cheese pie is a must try. Kitchen was very accommodating and cooked up an aglio olio seafood dish for our 10 year old. Not... More

La Caravella restaurant in Venice can be discovered immediately behind the newly-restored La Fenice theatre, just a few paces from the Piazza San Marco. Stepping inside, you will feel as if you have entered an antique sailing ship, with dark wood paneling, capstans and ropes and leaded windows. In summer, you may not step inside at all as La Caravella moves into a flower-filled courtyard complete with original wells, or the lighter courtyard dining room with typical Venetian ambience. The menu is typically Venetian too, with dishes like classic saor, marinated sardines with onions, pine kernels and raisins, fish soup, or oven orast turbot with potatoes and olives. In addition, the chef uses fresh seasonal ingredients to create trendier fare. The excellent wine list features both historical wine producers and smaller boutique vintners. Planning a party? La Caravella welcomes wedding receptions, private dinners, banquets, corporate entertaining, even coffee breaks. The garden seats up to 65 and one of the dining rooms up to 75.

Staying in San Marco

Neighborhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
