My heading says it all really. Very imaginative fish dishes and a wonderful atmosphere created by both the clientele and the owner and staff. My reason for 4 and not 5 star rating is down to cost and in particular that the excellent wine list does not offer some more reasonable cost wines.

This small restaurant has been around for a number of years and is a must visit if you like fresh fish, It is situated on a quiet walking street and you could easily walk by, Its reputation is excellent and we can certainly agree that it is justified. Our Mixed fish grill was excellent, we chose to de bone ourselves... More

This small, low-key restaurant has a sophisticated, innovative and delicious menu. I was nervous that my three kids would be unable to find food that they liked on Alle Testiere's menu, but the waiter worked with us and made sure that everyone found food that made them happy. A great meal!

The restaurant is expensive but totally worth it! The seafood is so fresh and beautifully prepared. The scallop start was incredible, a definite must on the menu! The platter for 2 was perfect--prawns, crayfish, and 4 types of fish. All cooked to perfection and filleted (if preferred) before serving. The waiter was fantastic, attentive but not overly so. None of... More

Booked some weeks back so no problem with the reservation. However we had to reconfirm 24hrs before. All 20 seats were full for lunch. All menus in English and all guests were English speaking. Food was nice. Better than what we had in others places. However it's not cheap. For the 3 of us with no drinks was 200€. Wine... More

This was highly recommended by our hotel (as most romantic in Venice), as well as by Rick Steves, but we found it to be just ok, not particularly romantic. Service was good, environment was a little cramped but good. Main issue is that we thought the food was just ok. We also felt pressured by the wait staff to order... More

Food was very good and the service was attentive. Friendly staff. We spent about $160 euros and had bottle of house wine (good), 2 appetizers, 1 pasta, 1 fish main course and 1 cheese plate. Make sure you have a reservation. We booked three weeks in advance for a Saturday night in March. There are two seating times. This was... More

You need to book, and they only do two sittings for dinner, but it is worth it. By far the best fish (no meat on the menu) we have eaten in Venice, and we've been coming here for many years. Very attentive and knowledgeable service too. It is not cheap, but the quality is outstanding.

Staying in Castello

Neighborhood Profile
Castello is the largest of the six sestieri (districts), and the only one not facing onto the Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime neighborhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a strong artsy current to the Arsenale area. Via Garibaldi in Castello, with its shops and bars, has one of Venice's rare straight and wide boulevards. When a large ship turns around the Lido to enter the Giudecca Canal, the startling sight creates an illusion that it will run aground right on Via Garibaldi! Families treasure Giardini near the island's tip, green with rare trees and grass, and Riva degli Schiavoni is a popular spot for Venetians to take a stroll to watch the sunset.
