Credit to my wife, we made a booking prior to our arrival. This nondescript restaurant is so low-key that you probably would have walked past it a few times if it wasn't for all the Tripadvisor stickers on the front door. Booking is quite essential, we seen a few families get turned away given it sits less than 10 tables.... More

As a foodie couple who loves to eat special food we came here looking for great Venetian food but was strongly disappointed. Leave aside the place is expensive (we knew that before coming and had no problem paying for a good food experience). Food was very average (beside one dish - the gnocchetti which was very good indeed), wine was... More

This restaurant is amazing. We are here twice. The spaghetti with clams was one of the best pasta dishes I have ever had. The fish dishes were fresh and beautifully prepared. Friendly and highly professional staff who remembered us when we returned. Memorable meals. Hard to get in but so worth it.

I can't imagine a trip to Venice without coming to Alle Testiere. We return at least once a year and adore this quiet, friendly place. The food is spectacular, the wine list is wonderful, and the hospitality is genuine. Make sure you reserve well in advance, there's little chance of just walking in.

We returned to alle Testiere in April having been once before a few years ago. This is a truly wonderful restaurant. Tiny, but absolutely full of character and with an amazing, authentic Venetian menu with particularly memorable fish and shellfish. Be sure to book a few weeks ahead of your visit to secure a table at one of the two... More

We scored a lunch reservation and wished we could book for every subsequent lunch and dinner. The teeny kitchen turns out sublime seafood. Lucky us that razor clams were in season.

I travel a lot but don't spend the time to give reviews. I felt compelled to give one this time. Food was good. Small portions. Should be $$$ or $$$$. This restaurant is slick. Everything from apps to pasta to fish dish was $25+. As a rule, be sure to look at the menus before sitting down in any restaurant... More

This was our first trip to Venice and even though we are seafood foodies, Osteria alle Testiere stands out as our favorite seafood restaurant of all time. We are from the Bay Area but moved to Texas a few years ago and have yearned for amazing seafood. Osteria did not disappoint. The spider crab was a wonderful start, the razor... More

Loved this place! The caprese salad had the best smoked bucatini cheese we've ever had. The restaurant has a limited menu for lunch but that's because everything is caught fresh which adds to the flavor. We had the gnocchi with cinnamon and the spaghetti with clams. Topped it off with a peach pie which was subtle, yet so flavorful. Don't... More

Excellent fresh seafood in an intimate, friendly setting. Having been lucky enough to have been in Venice many times this is still one of my must go places.

Staying in Castello

Neighborhood Profile
Castello
Castello is the largest of the six sestieri (districts), and the only one not facing onto the Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime neighborhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a strong artsy current to the Arsenale area. Via Garibaldi in Castello, with its shops and bars, has one of Venice's rare straight and wide boulevards. When a large ship turns around the Lido to enter the Giudecca Canal, the startling sight creates an illusion that it will run aground right on Via Garibaldi! Families treasure Giardini near the island's tip, green with rare trees and grass, and Riva degli Schiavoni is a popular spot for Venetians to take a stroll to watch the sunset.
