We had made a reservation for dinner. We were welcomed by great staff! We had a starter (polenta with fish "purée" + a salad with prawns and burrata) and then, tasty fresh seabass from the market with olives and tomato cherries. Delicious food and nice presentation. Worth going and excellent value for money. Probably one of the best restaurants in... More

Simply superb. Wonderfully cooked sword fish, scallops with orange, sea food soup, prawns with lime. So good I had two mains. Friendly atmosphere. No pretence. Great for families or couples.

My wife and I went here the first night they re-opened after their winter break. The restaurant is very intimate and the food and service were outstanding. The scallops orange dish was the highlight. Octopus, gnochetti and turbot were wonderful and the wine recommendations were great, too. Great value compared to higher-end restaurants in the States....highly recommended!!

Rick Steves guidebook recommended this restaurant and we were not disappointed. Menu changes daily with fresh ingredients. Everything we had was wonderful accompanied by a nice selection of wines. Reservations are definitely recommended.

Dinner ALLE TESTIERE was excellent. Seafood extra fresh, tasty preparations and (very hard to find in Venice) very good vegetable offer ( from Sant'Erasmo island). Service is nice and pleasant. Do not miss granola and vongole con zenzero.

We stumbled upon this tiny place and were absolutely delighted with dinner. Exceptional food, excellent service and fun, cosy atmosphere and substantial wine list all made for an unforettable experience. Value for money. We are returning again tonight!

We first visited in 2014 and were blown away by the quality and service of this tiny (booking essential) gem, so for our return to Venice, this time with friends, we just had to return and hope it was still as good. We certainly weren't disappointed - we all chose different starters and mains, and everything we had was excellent.... More

Hidden in a small passage off Santa Maria Formosa, a small unprepossessing place serves some of the best food in Venice. Efficient service, excellent fresh fish and the famous pasta with white truffle. Not inexpensive, but worth the money. Good selection of decent wines.

Venice at its very best—exceptional food, exciting, authentic, casual, delightful and fun—and the only place we've returned to in two weeks of serious eating! Loved everything. BRAVO !

The staff were very friendly and obliging. The room is small and the tables close together which gives an intimate and casual feel to the place. The food was very fresh and there was a good menu on offer.

Staying in Castello

Neighborhood Profile
Castello
Castello is the largest of the six sestieri (districts), and the only one not facing onto the Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime neighborhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a strong artsy current to the Arsenale area. Via Garibaldi in Castello, with its shops and bars, has one of Venice's rare straight and wide boulevards. When a large ship turns around the Lido to enter the Giudecca Canal, the startling sight creates an illusion that it will run aground right on Via Garibaldi! Families treasure Giardini near the island's tip, green with rare trees and grass, and Riva degli Schiavoni is a popular spot for Venetians to take a stroll to watch the sunset.
