We'd heard great things about this place from a Venetian friend and local - didn't book but as chance would have it they squeezed us in (it's small and very busy - they were turning people away after we arrived). We sat between two Italian couples who knew the chef and waiters and were clearly regular customers, always a good... More

We visited here this evening for dinner after it came highly recommended! We had an absolutely divine evening. The service was perfectly timed, the food...outstanding! We had the bass, the cuttlefish and the Turbot- all delicious! The owner and staff create a welcoming and warm experience accompanied by a fabulous meal, along with wonderful wines! Can't wait to come back!

The John Dory in citrus is amazing in its goodness. Fills up in off-season and a new menu printed every day. You can spend more at San Marco's but this hard to find place (its by InCoop) is the real deal.

My wife visited on our first day and it was so good, we went back on our last day! This restaurant was excellent from the dishes, the wine to the ambience! Highly recommend for those who love fresh seafood where the menu can change multiple times per day to ensure only the best!

Hidden not far from Campo Formosa is this small fish restaurant that is one of the best in Venice. They only have seatings at 7 and 930 so reservations are a must. Also a great wine list, my advise just put yourself in the hands of the staff, and enjoy a truly great meal.

This place can't very highly recommended and it didn't disappoint. It's tiny but still very comfortable. They have two sittings in the evening - 7 and 9.30. We did 7. You MUST book or you won't get in. Service was delightful. Friendly and helpful and not at all rushed. We don't eat shellfish which could have been a challenge but... More

We had made a reservation for dinner. We were welcomed by great staff! We had a starter (polenta with fish "purée" + a salad with prawns and burrata) and then, tasty fresh seabass from the market with olives and tomato cherries. Delicious food and nice presentation. Worth going and excellent value for money. Probably one of the best restaurants in... More

Simply superb. Wonderfully cooked sword fish, scallops with orange, sea food soup, prawns with lime. So good I had two mains. Friendly atmosphere. No pretence. Great for families or couples.

My wife and I went here the first night they re-opened after their winter break. The restaurant is very intimate and the food and service were outstanding. The scallops orange dish was the highlight. Octopus, gnochetti and turbot were wonderful and the wine recommendations were great, too. Great value compared to higher-end restaurants in the States....highly recommended!!

Staying in Castello

Neighborhood Profile
Castello
Castello is the largest of the six sestieri (districts), and the only one not facing onto the Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime neighborhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a strong artsy current to the Arsenale area. Via Garibaldi in Castello, with its shops and bars, has one of Venice's rare straight and wide boulevards. When a large ship turns around the Lido to enter the Giudecca Canal, the startling sight creates an illusion that it will run aground right on Via Garibaldi! Families treasure Giardini near the island's tip, green with rare trees and grass, and Riva degli Schiavoni is a popular spot for Venetians to take a stroll to watch the sunset.
