While in Venice my friend and I called into Harry's Bar famous for its well known patrons of years gone by, its style and the creation of the Bellini cocktail. While the bar did have a certain atmospheric feel of times passed we left feeling somewhat disappointed at our experience. The bar staff were very well presented but seemed aloof... More

Bellini was good. Was not expecting to pay 17 Euro. It was a tourist thing to do. Nice place. We went in the evening, sat upstairs since we were only there for a drink.

I've never had a Bellini, and I've still after ordering in Harry's Bar, the so called origins of this said famous drink have I had a freshly prepared one. I've had one out of a bottle of pre prepare drink. And paid €18 for the privilege. Service was good / ok, until I happened to see the staff commenting of... More

While we expected Harry's Bar to be pricey, we were surprised by how pricey it was. It opened at 1030a and we had a screwdriver. While handmade, it was 22 euros. Served with our drink was marinated green olives and a deep fried cfish cake. Tasty. We enjoyed our drink and left.

This place and the brand itself is clearly living on past glories - so long as there are enough people with more money than sense, it will serve a market for the pretentious. The food and service were ok but not what you'd expect for such a reputed place. The extremely cramped table arrangement combined with the constant frenetic and... More

So we like may before us, we're lulled into the glamour and splendour and reputation of the iconic Harry's Bar. How the nightly fall... We'd booked a table 6 weeks in advance, promised a window table. Luckily, as passing during day we popped into move the time to discover that they had not record of the reservation. They made us... I was hoping to see some glamorous celebrities there. All I got were more tourists just like me! The Bellini was for 17 euros, wow. Service we great, the bar is tiny - but they turnaround quickly so you'll always get a table - maybe a bit of a wait. Somehow if in Venice you have to be seen somewhere... More

Spent a good 1/2 hour looking for this iconic bar just because of the Ernest Hemingway connection, lovely looking small bar with ship theme, fairly busy, waited a few minutes to get served only to be told they don't serve beer of any kind or wine, unless your a cocktail fan or whiskey drinker it's not the place for you... Great story on Harry's and how the original bar began and the naming of the Bilini, peach after famous painter. Great drink and with new friends! Small place and not a big sign.

Staying in San Marco

Neighborhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
