Good was good. Nothing over spectacular. But enjoyable. 1L of house white wine for 10euros was goood. Bit annoying they add a service charge and a cover charge but over al pretty cheap at 30euros for two meals and the wine. Cute little street with men who come and play some music while your eating.

Venice is a beautiful city - but with its beauty comes great crowds and expensive restaurants. For the same price as an iced coffee in St Marks Square we had pizza and beer for 2 at Ae Oche. A very friendly place on the opposite side of the Grande Canal to most of the tourists. Stumbled across it and had... More

Just back from a week in Italy, and our meal at Ae Oche was the only one where I didn't feel pain when I got the bill! Unpretentious. Amazing selection of pizzas. Good service. Good location just off Campo San Giacomo dell'Orio. Would definitely go again.

The pizza base was crispy and light - almost couldn't tell it was gf. I chose the pizza with red onion which was just the right level of sweet and savoury. It was the best pizza I have had in the 4 years that I have been gf - thank you! Only suggestion would be to source gf pepperoni as... More

Easy to find restaurant on the way from Venice station to piazza San Marco. Lots of choices and chips for the teenagers! Reasonably priced drinks and not taken advantage of as tourists. Friendly service.

Buzzing small pizzeria. Outdoor tables sit out in the narrow passageway so you feel the bustle of the passers by without it being too hectic. Great pizzas. Pasta good too. Friendly staff. Locals hang-out - we went as a recommendation from a local. Not pretentious!

My friends and I got lost and became Hungary so we stumbled into this little place. We sat down at a table outside and the waiter that served us was very nice. We ordered the Caprese pizza witch has buffalo mozzarella balls and cherry tomatoes but in halves all over the pizza, along with whole fresh basil leaves. It was... More

Close to the Grand Canal, decently cheap large gluten free pizza. Very good!!!! You can find gluten free pasta almost anywhere but pizza is hard to find, look no more!!!

I traveled to Venice with my daughter. Neither of us like big crowds so we did our best to find a quiet spot for lunch. We walked around a lot and came upon this place. The prices were reasonable, especially since we had just left France where the prices were high. We shared a pizza and cappuccinos. Our bill was... More

This place is known as a pizzeria but I have never eaten a good one there. We go every once in awhile when we don't want to go far. But nothing worthwhile here.

Staying in Santa Croce

Neighborhood Profile
Santa Croce
Santa Croce gained importance as a sestiere (district) when Piazzale Roma was created in the 1930s to bring cars and buses close to the center of Venice. Constitution Bridge spans the Grand Canal linking Piazzale Roma to the train station. This area buzzes with energy from travelers and students. Historic palaces and former industrial buildings house some departments of Ca' Foscari and IUAV Architecture universities. On the Fondaco dei Turchi, Venice's Museum of Natural History offers Venetians prehistoric thrills, plus an overview of lagoon fish and wildlife. The Grand Canal, northern boundary of Santa Croce, is lined with palaces and decorated by the tall green dome of San Simeon Piccolo. Ca' Pesaro attracts Venetians to its contemporary art exhibitions. The Grand Canal exposes only one face of these buildings. On the opposite side, the palace often interacts with a square or a busy street to represent its neighborhood identity.
