Probably the worst fish i have eaten in my entire life (i fish since i was 4 years old). Probably the fish came from the Gran Canal and spent a whole week at the kitchen waiting for two adventureous travellers with a Venetian city pass (great offers at restaurants!). When our Branzinos hit our table, smell was so intense that... More

I can only confirm the previous reviews: this is the best value we found all week. The decor isn't fancy, but the food and service are as good as anywhere else we ate, with bigger portions and at 2/3 the price. Definitely worth trying!

Visited this place with my girlfriend and as soon as we sat down the waitress looked like she didn't want us there. We waited at least 10 mins to order our drinks and anything else we had to go looking for someone to help us we even had to get up and get our own cutlery for our second course.... More

Do you need a good value meal near Venice station? Try this. We found this 'no frills' trattoria near our hotel, and ate here twice. Good value tourist set meals are based on either fish or meat, or you can just choose one dish. Their spaghetti al vognole (baby clams) was great. The staff welcomed us with broad smiles, and... We chose this restaurant for dinner since we were tired and it was next door to our hotel, and had very low expectations since the place has no character nor charm. However, even if prices are average, we were very positively surprised by the food. It's not the most romantic or nice restaurant in a city choke-full with wonderful vistas,... More

This restaurant is close to the station so has lots of Trenitalia workers eating there. Cafeteria style restaurant, and good value, good service.

I would describe this as a 'working person' cafe/restaurant. The ambiance is unpretentious and to the point, plain tables and chairs, and hard lighting. The night we ate there it was only a third full with mainly italians eating there. We found it from reading trip review so we were slightly anxious when we entered to see it was 'under... More

For 12 euros I had a huge bowl of (great) pasta with egg and ham. (yum) Then a mixed salad and an enormous plate of prosciutto and melon. Fantastic! Locals eat here. There's a bar in back (you stand at it).

Found it by accident as determined not to eat in the tourist factories along main drag. Good decision! Excellent well cooked food accompanied by 2 of our fave Aperol spritzes, professional service by 2 waitresses, 1 smiley, other reserved and restaurant used by railway staff too, as well as Venetians, always a good sign. Go there and enjoy your food... More

The whole experience was ok but probably our least favourite meal in Venice. We paid similar prices but had better meals elsewhere. The restaurant is very clean but has an odd decor - rather clinical. The mixed seafood starter was very good but the salad provided with the mains had mud on the lettuce. It rather put me off. The... Staying in Cannaregio

Neighborhood Profile
Cannaregio
Cannaregio is the second largest sestiere (district) with its busy Santa Lucia train station. Many transplanted Venetians commute from the outlying areas, “terra firma” to the locals, which is shorthand for any place that is not Venice. Two Grand Canal bridges serve Cannaregio, the newest (Constitution, 2008) still a local hotbed of controversy. Ponte degli Scalzi is a busy link to the train station. Nearby shops on the Lista di Spagna offer specialties like pastries and coffee that lure Venetians with a down-to-earth attitude. The Ghetto, where the Jewish population was segregated in Cannaregio, has five historic synagogues with an active Jewish community. The Fondamente Nove bustles with foot traffic to the Rialto and San Marco while vaporettos (water taxis) head to Murano and other islands. Side streets lead into quiet picturesque neighborhoods and palaces like Ca' d'Oro rise directly out of the water.
