Outrageous rip off!! 70 euro for a measly plate of about 5 cheese squares cut so tiny that it was like a joke, which the waiter described as "common local cheese" and 5 slices of prosciutto (that I can buy at the supermarket next door for 2 euro) and a with a bit of bread... we were starving at the... Want true Venetian food, wine and culture, then this is the place to go to. The special Grappas', the authenticity of the venue, freshness and quality cannot be surpassed here Quality is longed remembered and worth paying for. For those not ready for cultural experience, stick to the main streets and eat cheaply and what goes with it

Wonderful food and the best wine in Venice! Great atmosphere too, really cosy and intimate. Very romantic. Quite pricey if you want the full menu but worth it (70 euros a head) and quite hard to find. Worth it though! A real gem - one of the highlights of our trip

A nice looking wine bar with some really great wines, both by the glass and by the bottle. However, the mark up on the wines is really, really high compared to other places and the food (sharing platters of meat and cheese and such) is also eye-wateringly expensive. I know it's Venice, but come on, a rip-off is a rip-off.... More

I really hate giving poor reviews but this place was the worst of all places we visited. 1. super expensive - house wines (ombre) usually run between 1 and 2.50 euros in bars in Venice. here? 7 Euros and it tasted watered. even the local couple we shared the table with was appalled at the price and quality. short pours... We come here every time we come to Venice - even though it is a struggle to find. We came brininging other family members this time. Quality is as good as ever and it really is worth finding. Excellent filled rolls - all the ingredients are first class, super welcome and wines are always delightful. In Easyjet magazine for November... More

We went there with friends (I knew the location which is actually nice and cozy); the choice of wine by the glass was ridiculous, I had a Pinot noir from Verona hills which was disgusting. Also, we ordered a plate of simple tapas, the lady working there served us after 25 minutes !! She was also always complaining there were... More

First I visited this excellent restaurant on a walking food tour with a group that takes you to what they consider the "best". We had among other things, a spaghetti and fish red sauce that was out of this world. Before I left Venice I wanted to find this place and eat there again as I needed some really good... More

Staying in San Marco

Neighborhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
