Was here and everything points to a spot making huge efforts to care for their hosts. At a table close by someone was visibly feeling sick (fainted). One would expect more attention that "call 911", but that was all that was offered. I guess this host walked out to get a glass of water elsewhere. And so did webecause we... More

Maybe the coffee is good, but beware of the significant difference in drinking your coffee at the bar (1.5 euro) versus seated (4.5 euro). One euro more would be more acceptable......A place daring to charge these differences for limited added value schould be avoided, even if it is announced in very small print in a corner of a busy window... Although it looks like an English tea room (and they serve about 10 types of tea) it was still very Italian. Very welcoming and a lots of atmosphere.

We were on route from our Hotel to the Rialto Bridge when the need for a Coffee became all consuming & we stopped at this great little Cafe. Inside it is split into two, One side large ornate Chairs & Tables & the Other space next to the Bar which we quickly realised was extensively used by the 'locals' for... More

Staying in San Marco

Neighborhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
