A really fantastic restaurant tucked off the main drag, which felt special to discover. The experience beat the very fancy fine dining restaurant we went to the night before by a country mile and was a third of the price. Relatively simple cooking, but done really well and what you expect from great Italian food. Thanks Service was good and the house white hit the spot. We had a really fabulous night.

We were treated to great traditional food. The waiter was very nice in the service and food was delivered in a time that shows that it is not precooked. We loved every bite. Given the size of the place, it is best to book in advance.

Wow, outstanding meal. Started with a sampling of cicchetti, 2 balls (fish and meat), cod, peppers and anchovies. Then had the seafood salad (excellent), spaghetti and clams (really good) and cod with polenta. Probably the best meal we had in the past 2 weeks in Italy. Great atmosphere (small locale), wonderful staff. If you're going to order wine, have a bottle, they aren't generous when it comes to ordering a glass of wine/ Prosecco, I've never seen so little poured into a glass.

Osteria Al Cicheto
Authentic Italian food is served at this locally owned diner. The manager comes out to greet the patrons. The waitress was kind. The restaurant is small and cozy. The restaurant is within walking of the hotels, water taxis and the train station.

We happened to pass by, liked very much what we saw and were lucky, 15 minutes later the osteria/winebar was crammed...
Fresh goat cheese with fruit salad as a starter was absolutely gorgeous, followed by homemade spaghetti with tomato sauce - the best I ever had! Small chocolate cake for dessert was great as well.
Perfect wine suggestion, very friendly service, nice atmosphere.
After dinner we moved over to the bar section and finished the evening with another glass of wine.
Absolute recommendation!

This was a really lucky find. The food is fresh and creative and absolutely full of flavour. The Owners are the chef and Sommelier, both on site and clearly care a great deal about their customers experience. They have a great wine list and offer organic wines. We thoroughly enjoyed this cute little spot and highly recommend it!

Probably the toughest reservation in Venice, just 4 tables and a few high tops for a €45 three-course prix fixe at Dinner, Osteria al Cicheto is a small Bacaro tucked away on Calle de la Misericordia just a few hundred meters from the train station.
Known for a lengthy list of local Wines, many natural, guests at lunch will find Cichetti plus fried Snacks at the bar while those with reservations after dark can order the same in addition to a dozen or more Venetian classics.
Friendly and tourist-friendly, though locals commonly fill the space from open to close, selections prove tough despite a well-culled list, and whether one chooses Appetizers fried or not the flavors are bold and well paired to White Wine with a bit of acidity.
Local and Seasonal, though dishes such as Spaghetti with Clams and thicker Tubes beneath Duck Ragu are available most days, Frito Misto entails whatever is caught fresh in bountiful portions while Squid in their Ink shine adjacent grilled Polenta.
Making all Desserts on site, an extra €6 for those with room, expect Tirsmisu and Cookies anytime but if asked for a recommendation all servers will suggest delicate Pear Pie that eats more like a Cake resting in two types of Custard.

We thoroughly enjoyed our dining experience at this wonderful hidden gem. The restaurant offers a light price fix or full fix menu. We chose the light prince fix for $29 and glad we did. The entrees were scrumptious. We had the peace fritte and boiled stuffed octopus to start with stuffed squid and ravioli as entrees. We topped off our meals with a delicious light White House wine from Venice. The tirimisu was excellent too. We will definitely return on our next visit to Venice

While wandering the maze of alleys in Venice, it started to rain and rain hard. Luckily we saw the awnings of this restaurant down a side alley, so we headed for it. Looking in, we saw a very cute bar with about 3-4 seats and the couple there was leaving, so we hurried in to escape the rain and indulge in some wine and nibbles.
The bar is tiny but there is a main restaurant seating area, down the hallway, in the back. There was a nice selection of recommended wines by the glass and a steak tartare appetizer that was calling our name. We tried a few different wines by the glass and they were all delightful. The tartare di manzo was beautifully plated. It was chopped so finely that it was light, not heavy like some other tartare I’ve had. Flavors were fresh and nicely seasoned. We also got their sampler selection of typical Cicheti, which were 3 different ones for each of us. All were delightful.
Service was decent and the gals behind the bar were friendly, but not as attentive as they could have been. Instead of asking if you’d like another glass of wine when they see your glass is empty, they wait until you ask for another glass. That’s the reason I didn’t give this a 5 star. This hidden Osteria has a nice selection on their menu and if we weren’t already full, we would have definitely ordered some food. This just gives us a reason to go back next time we visit Venice again.

The place is located a few minutes from Santa Lucia station, it is small but delicious, with about 7 tables and a nice full bar as soon as you enter. We eat in two shifts, at 7pm or 9pm. We booked about 20 days in advance by email, paying €40 for two as a deposit (naturally these are discounted at the time of the final bill). The staff is welcoming and ready to give advice and explanations on the dishes. We couldn't miss the traditional appetizer with creamed cod, octopus and sardines in saor, really excellent. Musetto much appreciated, as well as the cuttlefish in black with white polenta. Typical almond dessert, not to our taste, a little dry, but we had to try something typical, it's okay! It drinks well, we had two proseccos by the glass. Final bill around €90 for two, a little high considering the dishes, but the cicchetti are worth it from what I saw while waiting for the table and I would go back to try them.

This was a regular dinner spot for me in 2018 and 2019. I was back in Venice recently and wanted to go back to Osteria al Cicheto: certainly glad I did! We ate there two different nights and both were excellent. My buddy ordered the roast beef and I thought "Really? in an Italian Restaurant in Venice close to the water?" but it was a fantastic steak cooked perfectly. Their fried veggies/seafood appetizer is as good as any I've ever had; very nice light tempura-type batter and not fried too long. I LOVE that they fry at least one sage leaf (you are reading that correctly!); I asked if they still did that and they turned around and put four in my dish (which was not only tasty but extremely considerate). I had squid one night and spaghetti al console the other (always one of my favorites) and both were excellent. The one gentleman behind the bar (manager?) is a person I remembered and he was as professional and considerate as I remembered. With only two staff in the front of the house, they were extremely busy (at least half of their business is as a wine bar), yet the service was attentive, never rushed and friendly.
I noticed many changes in the four years since I was last in Venice, but Osteria Al Cicheto remains a shining example of quality and service (and at a modest price, I might add). I'm already planning a trip for next year and this will again be on my list (at least once if not more!).

We only found this tiny place by accident, but it was certainly a happy accident. We managed to get a table for dinner that night and were treated to the best food I have had in two trips to Venice. The duck ragu on bigoli was delicious and just enough to leave room for the tuna burger! This was cooked to perfection; moist, flavourful served on a simple salad . The dishes are unpretentious but packed with flavour, the service was friendly, efficient and helpful. We left the wine choices to the waitress and enjoyed distinctive, unusual wines by the glass at very reasonable prices. This is a gem of a place well worth seeking out. Advance booking is a must.

I would rate it 5 for food, but was put off by our experience regarding a reservation. I had emailed requesting a reservation but did not receive a response, either yes or no. As I thought it would be rude to not show up if a table had been reserved, we went and found ourselves on the receiving end of rudeness. Nevertheless, we were seated with the caveat that we only had 75 minutes. The proprietor steadily warmed up and in the end everything was okay and dinner was worth the initial unpleasantness.

For those who love good food and good wine it's like being in Disneyland... absolutely wonderful
Simply exquisite traditional cuisine…. The dishes range from excellent to fabulous
The wines, well here we are in the Olympus…..Usually, even if we change restaurants, the wine list is often the same or at least 80 percent of the wines….one of the most beautiful things is that at Cicheto 95 percent of the wines offered they are unknown... but all absolutely sensational, all unique with their own character and peculiarity... Some even a little extreme but it was also their beauty... all wines expertly chosen and researched with great passion and sensitivity
I was in the company of Spanish friends who were moved by this food and wine experience
The place is very nice and typical.
The friendliness of the "hostess" who welcomes you behind the balcony of the bacaro is also exquisite... kindly smiling, always ready to give advice and extremely knowledgeable also in recommending food and wine. the sign. Simone fantastic.
Finally, the quality/price ratio...crazy!!!
Probably thanks to the search for little-known and fashionable wines, as well as the correctness of the owner, it allows Cicheto to have absolutely affordable and incredible prices compared to the quality offered.
I consider it an indispensable stop for those who want to get to know Venice from this point of view too.
The place is not very large so it is advisable to book and then be guided on this evocative journey of ancient Venetian flavours

Small restaurant a bit hidden in a street next to the station. Informal, quiet and refined environment, attentive and kind service, the dishes offered are typical of the Venetian tradition and are truly of excellent quality, including homemade desserts. The house wine in bottles is also very good. Correct prices. Completely satisfying experience from every point of view.

Cannaregio
Cannaregio is the second largest sestiere (district) with its busy Santa Lucia train station. Many transplanted Venetians commute from the outlying areas, “terra firma” to the locals, which is shorthand for any place that is not Venice. Two Grand Canal bridges serve Cannaregio, the newest (Constitution, 2008) still a local hotbed of controversy. Ponte degli Scalzi is a busy link to the train station. Nearby shops on the Lista di Spagna offer specialties like pastries and coffee that lure Venetians with a down-to-earth attitude. The Ghetto, where the Jewish population was segregated in Cannaregio, has five historic synagogues with an active Jewish community. The Fondamente Nove bustles with foot traffic to the Rialto and San Marco while vaporettos (water taxis) head to Murano and other islands. Side streets lead into quiet picturesque neighborhoods and palaces like Ca' d'Oro rise directly out of the water.
