Good value and variety of tapas and low priced drinks; you can tell by the big crowd of locals. To be honest, we didn't feel welcomed to be there as a tourist as I got a quick sarcastic lesson on the two types of spritz, bitter or sweet. My bad I guess. Poletta was good but they quickly run out... More

Great atmosphere to enjoy crostini and spritzer with the locals (and the tourists). Seafood crostini is highly recommended.

On our last day in Venice we decided to stop for lunch at Al Squero. We arrived around 11h30 with hardly any people in the Osteria. Well it sure soon filled up. We were lucky to be able to sit inside (very limited seating) and enjoy around 11 cicchetis, two glasses of wine for around 13E, what a deal. The... More

Friendly quick service, very good atmosphere at a great place and crostini variations which were just unbelievable - for the quick bite in-between the place to be!

Enjoyed some nice finger food for lunch overlooking the Gondola work shop. Nice atmosphere, went on a Monday lunchtime not too busy.

Spotted this popular drinking hole whilst out and about because of the line of people sitting in the sunshine on the canal wall outside. By this point we were desperate for a drink and sit down in a picturesque spot and this did not disappoint. There is limited seating inside but plenty outside if you don’t mind sitting on the... Intentionally went there several times, on way to/from Zattere but usually far too crowded. Happily mid-afternoon found it comparatively quiet,( but still busy) and delightful. Great range of snacks and wine by the glass, and the staff keep their cool and efficiency despite being in great demand.

Found this gem of a place tucked along one of the many canals apposite the gondola repair yard. Limited seating inside but most people are happy to take their food and sit on the wall outside. Great chicetti and Aperol Spritz. Staff friendly and helpful. Greta value for money - we went back again the next day.

Fantastic little bar. Had read good reviews on TripAdvisor and I liked the prices! The staff are very friendly, the crostinis delicious and the drinks too. Good crowd. Cosy inside when raining (although not much space) and delightful outside in the sunshine. Definitely worth a visit!

Thank swyull

Al Squero is the only Osteria in Venice exactly in front of the Ancient Squero of San Trovaso. There is no other place where appreciating from its window the construction or restoration of original Venetian gondolas. It is a cozy and comfortable place where you can share with friends a glass of Italian wine and taste an appetizing “cicchetto” at a small price. The selection of wines you can taste or buy at Al Squero comes from small regional wine firms of Friuli, Trentino-Alto Adige and Veneto, so that it is guaranteed unique care at the quality and distinctiveness of their products.

Staying in Dorsoduro / Accademia

Neighborhood Profile
Dorsoduro / Accademia
Artsy is the defining mood of this neighborhood with street artists, students, painters, sculptors, restorers, curators, historians, collectors, heirs and heiresses rubbing elbows. Peggy Guggenheim's collection, now a museum, lures chic locals for evening art aperitifs. Traditionalists and visionaries cocoon in bohemian luxury. La Salute basilica buttresses the neighborhood to the east. Gondolas bob in the morning light. The Accademia Bridge crosses the Grand Canal. A back street doubles as basketball court. Palaces house residents, or like Ca' Foscari a university, or a museum like Ca’ Rezzonico that attracts Venetians for concerts. Dorsoduro reveals its industrial roots too, in buildings converted to house university departments or exhibitions. Campo Santa Margherita bursts with youthful energy from local students. Foot traffic bustles to and from Piazzale Roma and Santa Lucia train station. Evening commuters pause for an aperitivo. Neighbors exchange confidants in a campo (square) on their way to market.
