Was told by the middle aged chap serving that I can only try one flavour because it's Italia not America. I'm not sure what they do in America, but it doesn't seem to be an issue with the multiple good places I've been to in...More

When I'm in Venice, I eat a LOT of gelato. Il Doge is one of my favorite stops. An advantage of choosing this location is that it's in Campo Santa Margherita, which always seems full of students and locals. So lots of people-watching opportunities.

You can definitely find amazing gelato that is reasonably priced, so long as you stray from the typical tourist areas. This is one example of such a place. The gelato was very good and definitely amongst my personal faves in Venice.

The gelato was cheaper than in the gelaterie near San Marco, and yet it was so far superior to them that it makes those others look like criminals. The operator was very friendly and honest. If you want gelato in Venice, go here.

Stopped in for some very tasty Gelato at the Gelateria Il Doge, near the Accademia. Located down from the square. Friends had recommended it and it was great. Many flavor choices. Super!

If you love gelato just like me you’ll be in heaven when you try Il doge. I mean all real gelato in Venice is pretty amazing but when you start noticing differences in flavour between different makers, that’s when th fun starts ;)

Have had gelato numerous times from the friendly folk at il Doge. Authentic and delicious! Crisp flavours and good variety (the lemon is to-die-for). Hand-made using natural ingredients, unlike the luridly coloured and decidely unnatural stuff you see around town (top tip I got from...More

We loved the gelato at Gelateria il Doge, snacked here multiple times. Even had to have my last cup of Crema del Doge before flying home. In my opinion this is the best gelato in Venice. Find it and enjoy!

I honestly couldn't advise on precise opening hours as I didn't get any further than the ice cream counter at the front! We arrived in the piazza around 11am and it was open then. So I suspect it is open from mid-morning... More
