Stopped by around 3:30 PM for a quick bite and a drink. The kitchen was "closed" so our only option was the appetizers in the display case.... which were fried bites that they microwaved to heat up right in front of us. In a word: Inedible. Worst food we've had in all of Italy, let alone Venice. Looks from the... More

Found Ca' Leon on trip advisor from other reviewers. Decided to book based on advice from fellow travellers as the restaurants get very busy. Food was great and so was the service. Sat on a little table outside and watched the world pass us by, both on foot and by boat. The choice of wines was excellent and had a... More

We stopped by for a drink and some ciccheti. The setting was lovely, on a quiet canal, and the food was good. It was a bit pricey, especially the prawns. But, the quality, service and view was worth it.

Next to a very calm canal, next to canal grande and very close to the train station. Outside terrace. A bit kitch inside but still nice. Very friendly service. I took an appetizer that turned out to be something else then expected. They changed it immediately for another choice. And stayed friendly. Food was pretty good.

We visited on Thursday evening about 6pm and got a table alongside the canal. Waiter was friendly and service fairly quick. We both had seafood dishes from the primi pratti, the spagetti being a decent sized portion. The bill was €42 for two dishes without drinks.

Was referred to this restaurant by family who had a great experience a few years ago. Food was average to good, as was service, but a bit pricey as compared to other options. For a party of 3, we split an appetizer, had one main dish, 3 beer/wine, and water for a bill of 110 Euros. We had much better... More

We had asked for recommendations for a restaurant where Italians eat. There were no italians at this restaurant. Service was good. However, the food was mediocre compared to food in Tuscany. We had not eaten at other Venetian restaurants. The filet was good quality, but it was served with some arugula and raspberries around it.... A total Mismatch and seemed... More

A bit off the tourist flow between Rialto and Piazzale Roma, Ca' Leon is the place to enjoy dinner at the canal with tasty food and excellent service. Amazing place with attention to the details and the waiters were so attentive all the time, paying special attention to every guest with a smile and Italian charm. The breeze in the... More

My husband and I dined at Ca 'Leon on our last night in Venice (April 2015). We were staying at a nearby hotel and we did not feel like walking far and didn't want to eat in the hotel again. So we scrolled along the canal (almost around the corner) and stumbled on this place. Since we didn't have reservations... More

Staying in Santa Croce

Neighborhood Profile
Santa Croce
Santa Croce gained importance as a sestiere (district) when Piazzale Roma was created in the 1930s to bring cars and buses close to the center of Venice. Constitution Bridge spans the Grand Canal linking Piazzale Roma to the train station. This area buzzes with energy from travelers and students. Historic palaces and former industrial buildings house some departments of Ca' Foscari and IUAV Architecture universities. On the Fondaco dei Turchi, Venice's Museum of Natural History offers Venetians prehistoric thrills, plus an overview of lagoon fish and wildlife. The Grand Canal, northern boundary of Santa Croce, is lined with palaces and decorated by the tall green dome of San Simeon Piccolo. Ca' Pesaro attracts Venetians to its contemporary art exhibitions. The Grand Canal exposes only one face of these buildings. On the opposite side, the palace often interacts with a square or a busy street to represent its neighborhood identity.
