Cover charge at lunch. Cost for small pizza, salad, 1 glass of wine, mineral water and 2 coffees was 34 Euros. Food was okay but nothing special. We were the only customers.

Very nice place to stay in calm part of the city, where you feel welcome and "at home". Really great!

Al Faro restaurant is a good-value restaurant (tasty food, reasonable prices, excellent atmospherics in picturesque, relatively quiet historic area) that is off the beaten tourist path in Venice. We stumbled across it when returning from Murano in the evening and we got off on the vaporetto stop for the Jewish Quarter (Guglie) rather than continue on to the train station... More

We came twice to this restaurant for dinner and enjoined very much the dishes we selected from the menu. We got a great service with Hummer from the restaurant owner. Mostly recommended to visit this restaurant

We happened upon this place whilst on our way to the Jewish Museum - it's around the corner. It has an extensive menu - more than the outside suggests. Pizza, pasta and fish and meat. But we didn't have long so we opted for 3 Antipasti - bruschetta with tomato and basil, a plate of cheeses with honey and melanzane... More

We happened across this restaurant on our last night in Venice. It's location near to the Jewish quarter in a quiet square is lovely , not too busy when we ate at about 7ish. We had a starter and a main course with wine and found it far less expensive than the 'tourist menus' that are often offered nearer to... More

We had just arrived in Venice and called in here for lunch, not much to be said for the ambiance here. Service was ok, we didn't have pizza but I have to say the ones that were being cooked looked good and we noticed most people were having pizza. I had gnocchi with pesto sauce which was fairly average and... More

Nothing to brag about here, but still, not bad at all. Decent pizza, decent salad, and decent ricotta. The place is busy, with a huge carryout business. Reservations are the only way to guarantee a seat. This is probably explained by the great prices and the low competition for business in Venice. You only have to be decent, reasonably priced,... I don't understand how they have 4 stars on TripAdvisor. The atmosphere was hostile, the tables were dirty, there was a hair in my wine glass, one of the grissini offered had already been partially chewed by a previous guest, not to mention the blonde waiter whom we found to be incredibly rude. As if that wasn't enough the pizza... More

Staying in Cannaregio

Neighborhood Profile
Cannaregio is the second largest sestiere (district) with its busy Santa Lucia train station. Many transplanted Venetians commute from the outlying areas, “terra firma” to the locals, which is shorthand for any place that is not Venice. Two Grand Canal bridges serve Cannaregio, the newest (Constitution, 2008) still a local hotbed of controversy. Ponte degli Scalzi is a busy link to the train station. Nearby shops on the Lista di Spagna offer specialties like pastries and coffee that lure Venetians with a down-to-earth attitude. The Ghetto, where the Jewish population was segregated in Cannaregio, has five historic synagogues with an active Jewish community. The Fondamente Nove bustles with foot traffic to the Rialto and San Marco while vaporettos (water taxis) head to Murano and other islands. Side streets lead into quiet picturesque neighborhoods and palaces like Ca' d'Oro rise directly out of the water.
