Average food at high prices. The truffle risotto had to be taken back to be cook more but still came out undercooked. The overall food quality is decent - nothing more, nothing less. It's a good place to go if you are staying in the Splendid Hotel and rained in.

We checked into the hotel early in the afternoon, and because it was raining, decided to try out La Maschere, the restaurant in the hotel. The service was good, but the food was very average to poor. My pasta alle vongele was okay, but the clams tasted a little past their best. My John Dory fillet (St Pierre) was overcooked,... More

We had a fantastic meal. They had a wedding party in all afternoon and the evening service did not suffer a bit.

We were staying at the hotel so we decided to try the restaurant. We were not disappointed. The ambiance is cordial and ample. The pasta al dente but the sauces a bit too thick and heavy for our delicate intestinal tract. The waiters and waitresses smiled occasionally and at the appropriate times, no more, no less than required. By the... More

We ate in this restaurant one night, the food was beautiful. It has a lovely ambience, and a pianist playing in the background which added a real nice touch.

I normally avoid hotel restaurants but yesterday booked at Le Maschere which was a mistake as the mussels were not fresh neither was the turbot. Although the Maitre readily changed the fish dish it all leaves a rather bad taste in the mouth.

I have eaten here several times. When I dine with Venetian friends this is where they take me. I suggest to eat in the Terrace. I read where one reviewer did not like the steak. Sorry, but Venice is on the water, not in cattle country. They specialize in fish. Trust the waiters recommendations.

This was our last night in Venice and after an unfogetable gondola tour near the Danieli Hotel, the gentle gondolier suggested us a local class restaurant. Le Maschere inside an hotel called Splendid was best dinner we had in the whole Italy. A welcome Bellini as soon as we seated and after trying local startes we ordered a turbot prepared... More

Mediocre food, lukewarm service and high price (40 Euros per person for Chateaubriand) were the reasons for this bad review. For the same price, one might be better off at a restaurant at Piazza di San Marco.

We were guests at the lovely Splendid Venice Hotel so we decided to give their restaurant a try after reading good reviews. It was not a good experience. At all. This was -- by far -- our most expensive and disappointing meal with the least attentive staff of our entire 3-city Italian vacation

Staying in San Marco

Neighborhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
