From the moment my wife and I walked in we knew it would be a great experience. Top service from beginning to end. And when you combine that with the food, it was just fantastic. My wife has the risotto and I had crab ravioli to start. Both excellent. Fatima was good enough to share some of the risotto. Wow!... More

Called for dinner, initial impression was the staff were a bit stuffy, not such good a welcome at reception, glad we stayed at the Danielli. Once in the dining room a bit more relaxed and this continued to get better throught the meal. Food very good, no taster menu, but the somellier chose a very good local Italian wine at... More

I popped into this restaurant as 3 locals recommended it as the best place to eat in the area and was not disappointed! Fine dining and amazing food. Steak cooked to perfection, excellent wine and champagne. More than satisfied and will return here every time I come to Venice. PS - the team here cater very well for proposals!

The Gritti Palace, immortalised in Hemmingway's Across the River and Into the Trees, has the best location in what might be the best-located city on earth. The bar is beautiful, and the deck looks directly onto the Grand Canal. Of course, I know this is Venice - never knowingly underpriced - but even for the city's own eye-watering standards, Club... Truly a memorable meal from start to finish. We had drinks in the bar adjoining the hotel then were greeted nicely at the restaurant. The gentleman seating us gave a choice of tables, and reassured me that my request for coeliac options in my booking was noted and they would 'take care of me'. We shared the Hemingway risotto then... More

We celebrated our 17th anniversary at this restaurant. We were accommodated to sit at the best table, on the corner looking right over the Grand Canal to the Basilica. The food was outstanding. THE SERVICE WAS AMAZING!!! So friendly and didn't feel rushed at all. I had the Home-made tagliolini pasta with lime scented spider crab, chives and caviar de... More

Excellent cuisine with a bonus attraction of looking out over the Grand Canal. Venice is a beautiful city and this is one of the better restaurants.

First of all, the ambience of this place is fantastic. It is situated overlooking the Grand Canal and the Basilica Santa Maria and it is very romantic. But for the prices that they charge, this is what you are paying for, not the service or the food. For a restaurant of its reputation, the service is pretty marginal. The service... More

Staying in San Marco

Neighborhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
