It might seem like a good idea as you are walking by but if you do so you will regret it when the bill comes. Sure, Venice is expensive but this is outrageous.. 9 euros surcharge per person for the live music. At a group of 5 like ours you start at 45 euros before you even order anything. Even... More

We ordered the tiramisu which was very average at best and definitely way overpriced. My shock was when I had to use their bathroom!!!! Extremely filthy and disgusting! Like it hasn't been cleaned in ages. Pee was everywhere on the floor and tissues thrown around the toilet. Just EWW! Avoid this place if you will need to use the bathroom.... More

Had 2 club sandwich, 1 hot chocolate and 2 ice tea in August. It was, as expected, very expensive but whereas the hot chocolate was very good the club sandwiches were average, and not to mention the ice tea, that was actually a Lipton ice tea not a real one (which one could have expected when looking at the price).... Popular with locals this is the unchanging face of real Venice. The great thing about Italy is it never changes...it doesn't have to ..and this cafe in the centre proves the point.Excellent service but what would have been different 50 years ago?...nothing!

We stopped off here to experience a drink in St marks square. we have no issue with the price as it is part of the fun however when we came to go to the toilet ..........my husband commented that there was excrement smeared all over the toilet. the ladies was equally as revolting. When paying that much for drinks where... More

Came here after dinner. This restaurant is nicely located within the piazza. We are able to enjoy both the music from here and the band adjacent. Note that there's a "music" charge of 6€ per person. We had a bottle of red wine which wasn't too overly priced. I think the cocktails are way more overpriced. So I would recommend... More

We decided to stop off here after lunch because we were looking for a wi-fi connection. I can only comment on the gelato. I ordered “la gondola”, which as the name implies was in a model gondola, with three scoops of gelato over fresh fruit. The gelato was reasonably good, certainly not the most flavorful I have had, but the... More

Located on San Marco square, it's a quaint caffe which retained the original interior. Perfect location and if you're lucky there is a band playing on the terrace. Great tiramisu but the downside is that it was a bit price my but given the experience, I would definitely do it again!

Stopped for ice cream with two rather grumpy small children. Waiters very very welcoming. Nice ice cream and a good espresso. Expensive, but no surprise, it's on St Marks Sq!

The place is located at Plaza San Marcos and is very nice to have a drink and some snacks while watching the Cathedral. The service was very nice and friendly. It is important to mention that the place is really really expensive! So, if you want to have a drink here and enjoy the view you will have to pay... More

Staying in San Marco

Neighborhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
