My wife and I ate here after leaving a chi-chi restaurant nearby that didn't seem to have half of what they featured on their menu. The Trattoria Misericordia, by contrast, seemed to be the real deal. Despite being crowded, we managed to get a table for two and eat a descent meal, served by friendly staff. The spaghetti alle vongole... More

We have visited the place in February on a Friday evening. We ordered fish and meat with spinach and French fries as side dishes. All was fresh and tasty. Prices are reasonable (wine not overpriced) and the waiter we had was great fun. Well organized place.

We just wanted to have some drinks, but the pushy staff were trying to sell us food as well. Just walk a little bit further and have some wine at Vino Vero.

We stopped in for dinner a bit after 7pm and had an amazing meal and really fun time with the waiters. We started by sharing the Fish Soup, which was more like a soup with every kind of seafood, it was incredible! Followed by the Spaghetti con vongole (clams) one each, we'd been trying this at almost every restaurant we... More

We found this place by accident and thought that it's quite charming and nicely located. Unfortunately our both dishes were really not tasty. I can see that the restaurant has a lot if good reviews though so maybe we were just really unlucky with our choice.

My partner and I had dinner here last night and really enjoyed the experience. The host was absolutely amazing making an effort to try and speak Italian as I was practising but still helping in English. We saw you put so much effort into another table where one of the guests had an allergy to garlic and insured that she... More

We spent the last evening of our short break in Venice here and we're impressed with the food and atmosphere. The food was good and reasonably priced and the host helped to make the evening fun with a good balance of advice on the menu, banter and friendliness. The drinks on the house when we arrived when it was realised... More

For me, the charm of this place was that the menu (which was surprisingly long) was full of the type of dishes that you would expect in a more general Italian restaurant rather than a Venetian restaurant. So I had penne all'arrabbiata and a breaded fried chicken breast with french fries (chips), which is just what I wanted after dining... More

Overpriced - like most Venetian restaurants. Disappointing food. Grilled fish platter for 20 euro?! JUST GRILLED - NOTHING ELSE!!! Including dry, overcooked piece of NORWEGIAN salmon! Then dorada - not the best, cheap and rather smelly fish. For the same money in Paris posh 16 arrondissment you may get a much better dish with a sophisticated sauces, garnishes etc. In... More

Staying in Cannaregio

Neighborhood Profile
Cannaregio
Cannaregio is the second largest sestiere (district) with its busy Santa Lucia train station. Many transplanted Venetians commute from the outlying areas, “terra firma” to the locals, which is shorthand for any place that is not Venice. Two Grand Canal bridges serve Cannaregio, the newest (Constitution, 2008) still a local hotbed of controversy. Ponte degli Scalzi is a busy link to the train station. Nearby shops on the Lista di Spagna offer specialties like pastries and coffee that lure Venetians with a down-to-earth attitude. The Ghetto, where the Jewish population was segregated in Cannaregio, has five historic synagogues with an active Jewish community. The Fondamente Nove bustles with foot traffic to the Rialto and San Marco while vaporettos (water taxis) head to Murano and other islands. Side streets lead into quiet picturesque neighborhoods and palaces like Ca' d'Oro rise directly out of the water.
