We really enjoyed our lunch here. I think almost every place we eat in Venice was fabulous. Just ask the locals and you can't go wrong.

Visited after trip advisers advice . Lovely quaint restaurant and didn't have to pre book. Limited menu so if you want large steaks steer clear. The service is a bit hit and miss but added to the charm of the place its not fine dining. We had fried calamari which needed some dressing and salt and pepper . I loved... More

I am wishing we had read an earlier review as we had an almost identical experience with Ravioli and another dish of squid. Awful tasteless squid and the Ravioli was just OK. Have to entirely agree with October's post. More money than it should be. Shame we wasted our last meal. Had to go for a takeaway later.

My family came here on a recommendation from our host, and that turned out to be a poor decision. We came for dinner at 6:30 and the entire restaurant was empty for our entire meal. However, it still took 5 minutes for the server to come to our table. There was no preamble or welcome, they just arrived and said... More

Don't touch this place with a bargepole (or even a gondolas pole) went in for lunch and ordered pasta, food was ok but then waited and waited for the waitress to ask us if we wanted anything else but eventually gave up and asked for the bill and told her what I thought of her attitude and that the service was... Well this place was a nice find, Very low key on the outside, But you can see its a proper family place inside. Our meal was one of the best value meals in Venice, by quite a margin. Well worth a visit

Top menu of local classics at a budget price......calamari was excellent as was wine price. It's behind St Marks in Giglio area. Recommended.

We were pressed for time and unfortunately didn't bother to look up the reviews prior to walking through the door. Since this place is a slightly off the beaten path and down an alley/canal, we figured it would be ok. We were quite mistaken and the first clue should have been the packaged breadsticks on the table. In typical Italian... More

Unpretentious little place with atrocious decoration. The food was descent. We had frittura mista and fish of the day. Regarding the service Your experience there depends on you mood when you enter: you can be shocked and offended but we decided to laugh at the disinterested waitress who spent her time texting on her mobile, drinking behind the bar, cheering... Description
Cucina da Mario is the typical venetian osteria. Familiar management since 60 years, great food (daily fresh, as there is not any freezer) in a very relaxed atmosphere. Live music every friday night.P.S. Typical Venetian Osteria means that you CAN'T find old bread, neither old olive oil to fry food. Of course NO food older than one day. Infact we're proud of the food we provide, but if you've got any issue with your meal, feel free to tell us. Cheers!

Staying in San Marco

Neighborhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
