I would recommend the Al Vecio Portal. The foods will satisfy your cravings. The ice cream is also great. The waiters are customer oriented and friendly. Thank you Gerald Duyan for introducing the best restaurant in Venice.

My wife and I stayed a week in Venice and came here 3 times. Superb Sicilian-style food with great, friendly service and very reasonable prices. We loved sitting in the garden hidden at the back. The ravioli and the carbonara were both highlights, but everything we ordered was great. Popular with the locals, so you know it's good.

The host was curt, the decor was average and the food was fine. I will provide a caveat that the only person to not get the prix fixe (which had limited option) said that the pasta was the best she'd had in Italy. My pasta was similar to what I make at home (I'm no Eric Ripert) but filling and... More

Ordered bruschetta to start which came with onion (a nice twist for me!), then eggplant ravioli with smoked cheese (delicious) and my girlfriend ordered the lasagna which she said was very good. A good selection of wines by the glass, half bottle and full bottle. The meal cost only 50 euros for 1 starter 2 mains and a half bottle... More

This is one of those places that you would like to keep to yourself! A fantastic recommendation by Loconda al Leon our fantastic Hotel. A wonderful night in the Castello district away from the crowds in their lovely terrace garden. High quality italian fare extremely reasonably priced and an enthusiastic host. We will be going back on our last night... More

Was recommended this by Nicola at Oceano Mare. The staff are friendly and efficient. The garden out back is lovely too. I felt very welcome travelling solo. I enjoyed a free Spritz on my second visit :-) Spagetti was delicious. After hearing horror stories about how expensive eating in Venice is, I was so lucky to have been recommended this... More

This place was recommended to us by our hotel. It is a quaint spot in the back streets of Venice, but should not be skipped. The food was fantastic (best meal I have had in Italy), and the owner was really accommodating. Would definitely recommend (especially the eggplant ravioli).

This restaurant is on a side street off the southern beach of Venice. The service was good, and the grilled octopus was awesome. But their bathroom looks like it belongs in a gas station.

I don't understand howcome this place got so many good reviews. We went there after reading all those nice comments in trip advisor. I don't know if you can trust trip advisor anymore. The first thing that made me sceptic was no crowd at all! The restaurant was almost empty except 2 couples sitting outside. It was about 9pm. As... More

Staying in Castello

Neighborhood Profile
Castello
Castello is the largest of the six sestieri (districts), and the only one not facing onto the Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime neighborhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a strong artsy current to the Arsenale area. Via Garibaldi in Castello, with its shops and bars, has one of Venice's rare straight and wide boulevards. When a large ship turns around the Lido to enter the Giudecca Canal, the startling sight creates an illusion that it will run aground right on Via Garibaldi! Families treasure Giardini near the island's tip, green with rare trees and grass, and Riva degli Schiavoni is a popular spot for Venetians to take a stroll to watch the sunset.
