We very much enjoyed our trip to Ae Spezie, which was on the recommendation of the concierge at the Liaissidi Palace hotel, where we are staying. Starters of Lobster Ravioli with Tomatoes and Cannelloni were delicious. Mains of Lamb Chops and Fried Liver were equally so. It's nice to eat outside in the traditional Venetian way but sometimes the smoking... More

We had dinner here on the first night of our second visit to Venice having discovered that the restaurant we planned to visit was closed for a holiday. We were not disappointed. The food was good and reasonably priced and the waiter was helpful, making suggestions and coming up with a starter to share that was basically a combination of... More

Good food (the lobster ravioli was great). Waiters were polite & attentive. Having to write 100 characters now because of trip advisor app rules

Stumbled across this place when wandering Venice. Lovely staff and fantastic food, well worth a try! Best food I've had in Italy so far in the 5 days I've been here.

The food was delicious, the owner, Diego, was charming and helpful. We liked it so much that we eat there several times.

This restaurant was recommended by our apartment owner, who made the reservation for us. It was my sister in laws 60th and we wanted somewhere for a special meal. The meal was nice enough and we got a lot of attention from the owner who knew our apartment owner. (It would appear that he recommended this restaurant to all his... More

Excellent lunch. One of the best we have had . We ordered a salad of octopus with fennel as a starter followed by spaghetti with cuttle fish and ink sauce. Was really nice and felt fresh. The waiters were helpful and friendly. We will definitely go back though from were we are its a fair walk .

Popped in here for a lunch pit stop for a bit of shade and some food. The Waiter and Waitress who served us were both lovely and friendly. We decided upon traditional Venetian Cicchetti to start - a beautiful mixed platter of octopus, scallops, squid, sardines and other seafood - the octopus was the stand-out but everything was delicious. Both... More

The food and service were so terrific we returned for our last dinner. The staff were friendly and helpful and the menu had a great balance between traditional Venezian dishes and innovative dishes. We enjoyed our first meal so much we returned on our last evening in Venice. We'd highly recommend it and (return if we are ever lucky enough... More

My mother and I stayed just around the corner at Hotel Sant'Antonin, so this became our go-to restaurant. We ate here twice and would have had a third go if it wasn't for the atrocious treatment of the staff by the owner (I am assuming). The food and atmosphere--just wonderful. We ate outside both nights and had 2 lovely dinners.... More

Staying in Castello

Neighborhood Profile
Castello
Castello is the largest of the six sestieri (districts), and the only one not facing onto the Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime neighborhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a strong artsy current to the Arsenale area. Via Garibaldi in Castello, with its shops and bars, has one of Venice's rare straight and wide boulevards. When a large ship turns around the Lido to enter the Giudecca Canal, the startling sight creates an illusion that it will run aground right on Via Garibaldi! Families treasure Giardini near the island's tip, green with rare trees and grass, and Riva degli Schiavoni is a popular spot for Venetians to take a stroll to watch the sunset.
