Good pastries

good variety of fresh pastries, also a small table to sit if it is not too crowded. Mousses, biscuits, sacher tarte, tiramisu and obviously, coffees, tea, squeezed orange juice...

Passed this each day on the way to and from the hotel - mouth watering selection - bought several times - could stay here for a long time - try the meringues, all colours and shapes - great for snacks

It was while walking to my hotel that I chanced upon this patisserie. The colourful dispaly of goodies landed me inside and I was hooked . Tarts, palmiers, pastries...but it was the meringues that tempted me. So I landed with this huge orange meringue and a cup of espresso which I enjoyed sitting by the canal right outside. Don't miss... More

We hadn't heard about this place before, it was just on our way at dessert time and we decided to try it. Its tiramissu was simply the best dessert we had in Italy! It's not a budget place nor a too fancy one, we definitely recommend it.

We went in search of Pasticeria Rizzardini, which had been recommended to us, only to find it closed. We turned to our travel guide for a suggestion and it had this place. It was difficult to find but that's part of the fun in Venice. However, where this place is concerned, that's where the fun ends. The cakes on display... More

We ventured here as my friend was on the hunt for gluten free goodies. The woman in the shop told him exactly what was and was not gluten free and we loved it! She was great at what she did and the goodies were divine! Definitely worth a stop in, though it is difficult to find with Venice's creative sign... More

Staying nearby, we came here for breakfast both mornings of our stay in Venice. Coffee and a croissant - 5 euros each. The coffee was lovely, and the lady serving was most helpful. We were charmed by the 'mocca' and the 'hot chocolate' we ordered, but both were lovely once we added the milk. Highly recommended for service and food!

I stopped in randomly while wandering the streets of Venice to try some Venetian sweets. The service was good - we sat in the back and drank coffee and ate a selection of sweets. Everything was tasty!

Staying in Castello

Neighborhood Profile
Castello is the largest of the six sestieri (districts), and the only one not facing onto the Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime neighborhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a strong artsy current to the Arsenale area. Via Garibaldi in Castello, with its shops and bars, has one of Venice's rare straight and wide boulevards. When a large ship turns around the Lido to enter the Giudecca Canal, the startling sight creates an illusion that it will run aground right on Via Garibaldi! Families treasure Giardini near the island's tip, green with rare trees and grass, and Riva degli Schiavoni is a popular spot for Venetians to take a stroll to watch the sunset.
