Came based on previous reviews and because it was just down the street from our hotel. The ciccheti was cheap, plentiful and delicious. The octopus in particular was the best I've had. The place looks quite unassuming but is absolutely worth stopping. Best lunch we had in Venice.

The location is magical. Food is very good and the house wine is cheap and tasty. We had the mussels and the caprese salad. Light and good. We definitely recommend.

Ciccheti very good, go for this with a mixed salad for lunch and the house prosecco! We shared two prawns, a fried meat ball, fried salt cod, cod on bread, cheese & sundried tomato on bread, sardine and something on a stick - which was very tasty! There is a menu translated into English. Sat next to the canal and... More

Group of four visited on a Thursday afternoon seated outside. Quiet area off the beaten track with more locals than tourists around so a good escape. Beer was bottled and thus a bit more expensive than where pump beer is available but house wine was available by the litre to compensate. The wine was also pretty good but for some... More

We stumbled across this small bar / restaurant on our last day whilst looking for somewhere to enjoy a cold beer and some lunch. It is clearly caters more for the locals than for tourists but this authenticity made it all the more charming and enjoyable. The food came quickly after placing our order and was very tasty. As there... More

Often difficult to get a table on the Canal in Venice, this local Osteria is good for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Excellent Cicchetti (try the lentil with sundries tomatoes and aubergine- good as a starter in the evening too). They do a pasta with fish sauce which is heavenly. Service is excellent and you can't find a more authentic place... More

I am absolutely flummoxed by all the positive reviews of Osteria Bea Vita. We had rented an apartment in this part of Venice, which we adore, and ate at several terrific restaurants in the area (most notably Osteria da Rioba just five minutes from this restaurant). We arrived for dinner and sat outside, by the canal, which is lovely. However,... More

We were so happy to escape the crowded tourist traps around St. Mark's Square and find this inviting, peaceful restaurant with charming outdoor seating next to the water. The staff were welcoming and helpful, understanding that the concept of cicchetti might be new to some tourists. They were happy to explain how to order and what the dishes entailed. Cicchetti... Staying in Cannaregio

Neighborhood Profile
Cannaregio
Cannaregio is the second largest sestiere (district) with its busy Santa Lucia train station. Many transplanted Venetians commute from the outlying areas, “terra firma” to the locals, which is shorthand for any place that is not Venice. Two Grand Canal bridges serve Cannaregio, the newest (Constitution, 2008) still a local hotbed of controversy. Ponte degli Scalzi is a busy link to the train station. Nearby shops on the Lista di Spagna offer specialties like pastries and coffee that lure Venetians with a down-to-earth attitude. The Ghetto, where the Jewish population was segregated in Cannaregio, has five historic synagogues with an active Jewish community. The Fondamente Nove bustles with foot traffic to the Rialto and San Marco while vaporettos (water taxis) head to Murano and other islands. Side streets lead into quiet picturesque neighborhoods and palaces like Ca' d'Oro rise directly out of the water.
