Tempting snacks

Old tradional Venetian inn specialising in very tasty cicheti/small snacks together with a good range of modestly priced wine by the glass . Situated adjacent to the Rialto market it is a good place to linger at any time of the day

With a printed map and a pre booked table we were on a mission to find this restaurant. With two people on a gluten free diet and one vegetarian this restaurant had been highlighted in our planning for visiting Venice as being able to cater. On first glance the menu was select, quite limited and more expensive than others we... More

It has been a little over a year since we were at Ostaria Antico Dolo on New Year's Eve and we still talk about the wonderful experience that it was. So much so, that we even considered opening a replica ourselves. This place was not recommended nor did we research it in advance. Had we done so, I am not... More

The dinner was excellent. A wonderful menu of pasta and salad, the wine was very good and the desert amazing. We saw the nice place and we were there very early (about 18:00)...but in a few minutes there was no more free tables.

We walked in behind a Chinese tourist who had been told Antico Dolo was good - I will be sure to ask Chinese travelers their recommendations from now on, as the food was excellent. A portrait of the owner's grandfather is on the wall, and that family pride is evident throughout this tiny place. The cicetti were delicious, the pasta... More

We saw in the menu outside that they served also glutenfree food (two of us are celiacs) so we decided to get in. The place is very tiny but comfortable. The menu is focused on the starters and "cicchetti" (a bit of something to eat with a glass of wine, something like the tapas), and a very good selection of... More

We had a late lunch at this tiny and apparently very old restaurant. Most of the restaurants in the area were closed for midday and this was one of the few that was open. The restaurant is tiny, claustrophobic when standing, but fine when seated. The food was mostly tapas style sandwiches but they did have fried croquettes and a... More

Night 3 of 5 in Venice. We've been fortunate enough to stay in Dosodouro and the local places surrounding that are great. Wanting to venture out at night a bit further a field we decide to eat here. The food was quite nice. You could tell after being seated that this isn't a "real" Osteria where the few locals or... More

A very rude owner with an attitude: first we could not sit at the table we wanted although there were only 6 more people, than we were forced to buy expensive menu, finally when he could not even understand our wish of having a regular Italian beer, we made the attemp to leave and he got really ugly, telling us... We visited this place on our Venetian Cicchetti & Wine Tour (Urban Adventures - Elizabetta was our wonderful guide) & we think this is the best way to enjoy this place. The ambience is nice, & the décor is inclusive of nostalgic photos which always add to the atmosphere. We enjoyed our wine & cicchetti, particularly the polenta dish. We... More

Staying in San Polo

Neighborhood Profile
San Polo
The Rialto Bridge is the most famous sight along the Grand Canal in San Polo, smallest of Venice's six sestieri (districts) and by far the busiest neighborhood. Morning Venetians arrive to peruse the markets for fish, fruit and vegetables, while shops display goods from cheese to wine to desserts. San Silvestro and Rialto Market vaporetto (water taxi) stops add to the steady stream of foot traffic. San Polo is defined by churches including Basilica dei Frari, one of the most important churches sought by art lovers.
