This small family run restaurant serves a selection of venetian dishes as well as other Italian specialities. Everything we had was simply delicious. House wine better than average. Definitely recommended.

I think this place is one of the best restaurants in city. Food, service and the general atmosphere - everything was on high level. Highly recommend you this restaurant.

Great food, atmosphere and service! We had a lasagna and a pasta: both were really good. We had a white chocolate soufflé for desse that was AMAZING! Must try the desert!!!!!!!!!

Went there with my boyfriend, ate two lasagnas and tiramisu(which was great). Overall it was all very pleasant, a little expensive and not much choice but the food was good. Would probably recommend to someone who has money and loves fish.

Most food was nice, enjoyed black ravioli and cod three ways. The spaghetti with squid in black ink was just OK, lack in flavour. Wouldn't recommend this dish. Prices were very resonable in Venice because a lot of places charge terrible high price. I would recommend this place.

We ate here for dinner and had a very fish-centric meal: a large mixed seafood appetizer with an amazing array of fish/shellfish samplings, a really good frito misto and as a break from all the fish (!), tortellini con zucca -- scrumptious! This is a very small place, not many tables, so you should reserve even off season. The server... More

A small but charming restaurant with very friendly Staff explaining all questions about the menu. The food is delicious, no words can discribe how good it is. I would recomend to make a reservation in advance or be there directly when it opens.

Genuine, family owned , welcoming small place. We found the spot by accident and because our other restaurant was full. We waited for a couple of minutes at the bar with an "ombre" cause this tiny restaurant was packed with people. Mostly italians. We had pasta with salicci, insalata caprese, short pasta with fresh shrimp, dorada alla grillia AND frito... More

We went to a cheaper and more expensive restaurant and concluded that Osteria Alla Staffa was by far the best restaurant in terms of value during our trip to Italy. Quality: 5/5 - We ordered the Octopus in the purple potato purée as a shared starter. - I had the cuttle fish in black ink with polenta as a main... More

Osteria Alla Staffa is a charming restaurant that seats about 20. Reservations are recommended. We ordered two fish main dishes that tasted very different, yet were both delicious. We shared a side of cooked vegetables, which included zucchini, eggplant, roasted pepper, endive, green beans, and raw tomato. The ingredients were fresh and everything was flavorful, although the vegetables were a... More

Staying in Castello

Neighborhood Profile
Castello is the largest of the six sestieri (districts), and the only one not facing onto the Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime neighborhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a strong artsy current to the Arsenale area. Via Garibaldi in Castello, with its shops and bars, has one of Venice's rare straight and wide boulevards. When a large ship turns around the Lido to enter the Giudecca Canal, the startling sight creates an illusion that it will run aground right on Via Garibaldi! Families treasure Giardini near the island's tip, green with rare trees and grass, and Riva degli Schiavoni is a popular spot for Venetians to take a stroll to watch the sunset.
