I had just recommended this osteria to two friends who were visiting Venice for the first time and I looked for a previous entry, from which I discovered I had been coming here for over 10 years. I would never have thought that there could be an improvement in the quality of the cooking but Vergilio proved me wrong; he has gone from strength to strength. To say his crema di ceci e gamberoni is a soup is like saying a Rolls Royce is a car. The sea food is bought fresh every day from the market which js about 5 minutes away and the menu offers a wonderful selection of authentic Venetian dishes. For anyone who is new to the possibilities, Larisa will explain in detail everything you could wish to know and there is an extensive selection of wine with the house red and prosecco very good value for money. I do not eat meat so cannot comment on the carne dishes, but I have probably eaten most of the other dishes at some time and I have never been other than delighted ( the cozze are virtually a meal in themselves).
Do try this exceptional osteria and experience exceptionally good authentic cooking and a very warm welcome from Larisa and Virgilio.
Non vedo l'ora di rivedervi. A l'anno prosimmo.

The first course (tagliatelle with veal ragout) served extremely tasty and really hot, just as it should be. The main course (doraden fillet in fresh orange sauce and rocket) very delicate. Fish and oranges extremely fresh and harmonized well together. I had to turn on the arugula myself, but I got balsamic, olive oil and salt and pepper, so this worked well. The baguette served with it, fresh and still warm rounded everything off well. If you are looking for good authentic cuisine, you are in the right place. Clear recommendation!

I read about this restaurant in a 2014 Lonely Planet Guide someone had left at our AirBnb. I checked it out on Google Maps and the reviews had held up over the years. We ate our last dinner in Venice and Italy. It was the perfect ending to our Roman holiday.
What attracted me was the owners, husband back of house and wife front of house. These are always passion projects and I wanted to eat food made with love. The menu also reflected Venice’s offerings of fresh vegetables and seafood. We had strolled through the streets of Venice past little street markets of fresh produce that made me want to cry it was so beautiful. The asparagus and tomatoes. Well, I was able to enjoy them on my plate for dinner, scallops and asparagus, seafood pasta, an inventive chickpea and shrimp soup, tiramisu all delicately prepared and a great value. They have a wonderful inner courtyard that can be covered if it rains. It made for a magical evening.

This was the first meal my husband and I had on our honeymoon to Italy and it was fantastic! We had the sarde en saor, the seafood risotto, and the sea brim dish with orange sauce and all were incredible. For desert we had tiramisu and the panna cotta and I must say the tiramisu we had here was the best we had in our nature trip. The waitress was also so kind and attentive, and her husband is the chef!

This was our best night in Venice! After a busy day full of top sights in the busy tourist center of Venice, this was a real relief. Fortunately, we had already selected this beautiful hidden gem in advance, because you cannot just walk past it. Completely hidden, away from the hustle and bustle, but what a pleasantly authentic setting. Delicious dishes prepared with passion by the chef of the house and his charmingly friendly wife in the room. What a great duo! We were lucky with the weather and we were able to enjoy our dinner in the authentic setting of the old courtyard. Delicious authentic dishes were served here. A nice glass of wine, which was recommended by the lady of the house because our first choice of wine was not available. But the recommended wine was superb. When we left the restaurant, we were greeted and thanked very warmly by both the hostess and the chef. We are so pleased that we were able to escape the mass tourism of Venice for a while. Thanks to Antico Giardinetto! More than an absolute recommendation!

A childhood friend had been in Venice a few days before and they stumbled upon this restaurant and raved about it, so my friends and I decided to check it out....SO GLAD WE DID! It is a little off of the beaten path but actually just a 8-10 minute walk from Rialto Bridge. I had the filet with pepper sauce and about cleared my plate! The savory gravy-like pepper sauce that was on it was absolutely delicious. The owner recommended a great bottle of wine for us (we about had 2 bottles) and then she gave us some tasty limoncello as we were about to leave. Highly recommend this quiet little spot. The courtyard is painted a bold red and has mirrors up like you're inside. Just so cute. Will definitely visit again on future trips!

Entering through the entrance facing a narrow alley, you will find a hidden restaurant with a small courtyard. The seats are quite narrow.
We enjoyed fresh seafood dishes typical of Venice, such as seafood platters and squid ink pasta. The desserts were also excellent. The staff were kind and prompt in their service. However, on the day we visited, the seafood fritters we were looking for were not available, which was disappointing.

A good evening and impeccable service. The cuisine is fresh and succulent. From our table, we see the chef and his assistant working their seafood products with love.
Ultra fresh fish and as they advertise, neither pizza nor lasagna but Venetian dishes.

It was only by chance that we found our way to this wonderful restaurant.
A small courtyard has space for around 9 tables. All lovingly set.
The owner serves, the husband cooks.
We were served very attentively and courteously. The food was sensational! The prosecco was well chilled. Price/performance absolutely fine.
We will definitely be back.

Delicious food, fantastic friendly service and an authentic intimate restaurant. Forget all the big restaurants with people outside tempting you in. Seek out this place, which you could easily walk past, and enjoy fresh local cuisine deliciously cooked and served with a smile. Great evening will definitely come back when in Venice.

The seafood appetizer was incredible. We ordered the sea bream fillers in orange sauce and cuddle fish in ink sauce, both venetian dishes were wonderful. The terimasu and pana cotta rounded the meal off nicely. I would highly recommend this family owned and operated resturante.

Great family owned restaurant. We ate here our first night in Venice. We were exhausted from the day. It was our first night in Venice and we wanted a restaurant close by our hotel. We looked on google maps and checked some of the menus of restaurants close by us. My spouse wanted pasta in squid ink sauce. This restaurant had it on their menu and it was only a 5 minute walk from our hotel so we went. No reservation. We had a bit of a time finding it, but so glad we did.
The restaurant is very small, maybe 12 tables. The waitress, is the owners wife. She is wonderful. They had one table available when we showed up. My spouse had his pasta in the squid ink sauce and I had pasta in a spicy marinara sauce. The food was excellent. We enjoyed it so much we made reservations for dinner 3 nights later. If you are looking for a small, family owned local place to eat with home style cooking this is the place.

Found this lovely and unpretentious osteria just outside the fish market in Venice. Lovely dining experience. Very nice hostess Larissa was willing to reduce plate size and accommodate us in many small ways. Food was fresh and very tasteful. We enjoyed the sea bream, spaghetti with frutti di mare, fried misto plate and arrabbiata. All extremely delightful fresh flavors. Nice wine inexpensive by the glass or bottle. Tiramisu was excellent. Small glass of limoncello was a pleasing wnd to a delightful dining experience. Seek this place out, a little off the beaten path.

Omg run don’t walk! Don’t go on Main Street, off beaten path! Food was amazing. Our concierge recommended another place and I was like let me see the reviews. This place was the best choice. As a previous reviewer said cleaned my plate, more like I wanted to lick my plate. I had the sea bream in orange sauce. My boyfriend had the steak with pepper sauce. Must try!! Very reasonable and we had a bottle of wine. Plus dessert.

San Polo
The Rialto Bridge is the most famous sight along the Grand Canal in San Polo, smallest of Venice's six sestieri (districts) and by far the busiest neighborhood. Morning Venetians arrive to peruse the markets for fish, fruit and vegetables, while shops display goods from cheese to wine to desserts. San Silvestro and Rialto Market vaporetto (water taxi) stops add to the steady stream of foot traffic. San Polo is defined by churches including Basilica dei Frari, one of the most important churches sought by art lovers.
