This restaurant is run by an outstanding chef and his hard-working, charming, and efficient wife who manages the front of the house. It was tricky to find but we are glad that we did. We arrived without reservations and had a bit of a wait, but to a person as people left they offered unsolicited opinions that it was worth... More

This tiny restaurant - in the center not far from Rialto but far from touristic routes - had a little and nice courtyard, quiet and repaired, and a small hall. We had dinner in the courtyard. They serve only typical Venetian dishes and have a good selection of wine. A great discover, also for the price (40 € pp for... More

This restaurant is so unusual it must be experienced. It's homely, friendly but so efficient. There is only one lady taking orders and waiting tables and her husband is the chef. The food is not only the best we had eaten in four days in Venice, but the most beautifully presented and perfectly cooked. The chocolate mousse was to die... More

The couple who own and operate this wonderful osteria prepare fresh ingredients in a deliciously unfussy way. The seafood appetizer was wonderful, the pasta perfect, as was the tiramisu. Don't miss the house made limoncello cream. The chefs father grows the lemons in the Marche and delivers them to this hard to find, but worth the effort restaurant. Very near... More

We didn't book but found our way here after sitting in a wine bar nursing an Aperol and scanning TripAdvisor. It was full but the lady said she could fit us in 20 minutes, we had a seat in 10. There was just 1 waitress and maybe 10 covers but she managed the restaurant efficiently and gave a great customer... More

But if I were you, I would go to another cicchetti bar. This was my wife and my least favorite food we ate in Venice. We shared the muscles/clams, pumpkin gnocchi, and the scallop/asparagus pasta. All of it was average. All of it made us want to cook at home because there was nothing really special about the meal. Thank... More

Having spent a busy day around Venice we were looking for good food in a quieter nook of this bustling city. We chose this place based on reviews. Both the seafood and the grilled fish were delicious. The wine list provided a perfect accompaniment. Although the restaurant was full and only one server was present, service was excellent. We chose... More

This family-run restaurant is located near the fish market of Rialto, so we decided to try the seafood dishes exclusively but there are also dishes for meat lovers. The mixed raw fish appetizers was a delicious mix of octopus, scallops, prawns, home-made seafood spread, and some other fresh fishes. All the ingredients were fresh and of good quality, it appeared... More

We visited Osteria Antico Giardonetto on our second evening, having visited Alle Corone restaurant the night before ( about number 11 on TA for Venice). This restaurant is perhaps a little tricky to find, and as with much of Venice, it's worth familiarising yourself ahead with the location, or alternatively using your smart phone gps ! We arrived slightly ahead... More

Our hotel had recommended this restaurant. On entering we thought they had sent us to a tourist trap. The garden, completely overhung with vines, and the decorations were just too cliché generic Italian. However we soon realised that it was just this type of restaurant that Italian restaurants all over try to imitate. It was very busy and yet the... More

Staying in San Polo

Neighborhood Profile
San Polo
The Rialto Bridge is the most famous sight along the Grand Canal in San Polo, smallest of Venice's six sestieri (districts) and by far the busiest neighborhood. Morning Venetians arrive to peruse the markets for fish, fruit and vegetables, while shops display goods from cheese to wine to desserts. San Silvestro and Rialto Market vaporetto (water taxi) stops add to the steady stream of foot traffic. San Polo is defined by churches including Basilica dei Frari, one of the most important churches sought by art lovers.
